Hello

We have a problem with increasing memory usage caused by vmix. At systemstart the ram usage is about 18-20% and that is going to 90+ over a day or 5. Closing vmix drops the amount to start values immediately, so it is a vmix issue I guess. We use vmix for a inhouse liveshow once a week (at the moment basically 1 input from an hardware switcher) and replays of the show once a week. When there is no show a VLC playlist is showing via NDI.

The output signal goes via the external option to a decklink hub.

Any idea how to solve this problem?

Hi,

Double check in Task Manager to make sure the memory increase is definitely from the vMix process.
Then also make sure the latest vMix is installed (20.0.0.55)

Finally, confirm the type and number of inputs that are added to see if one of those might be responsible for the problem.

Regards,

Martin

That is a good point. The taskmanager shows about 12% for vmix. But the fact that the ram drops when closing/restating vmix points to a vmix related issue I think.

The latest version is installed.

It must be a VLC issue.
Is VLC on the same host as vMix?
Instead of using a VLC playlist, did you try to play the video files directly with vMix List?

Anyway Task Manager is able to show you which app is eating all your RAM. If vMix shows 12% is not the culprit.

We used to have a playlist in vmix but switched to vlc because the ~250 (music)clips slowed the programm, especially on (re)start.

I did check the taskmanager but cannot make anything of it.I did notice the vlc ram usage jumps back when a new clip starts.
Also I tried a custom perormance monitor but I cannot really figure out what that all the information means.

Still I get back to the fact that the ram drops back immediately after closing vmix. It must be related.

First in Task Manager, clicking on the column names sorts things by importance (from high to low or vice versa).

Second, TeamViewer is really not recommended for use during production. As you can see it eats a lot of power. It's for maintenace only, shouldn't be used during production. Never !

Third, the use of "playlist" is not recommended for so many video files as it requires these files to be loaded/added to the project.
It's recommended to use the List input which has close to no impact at all on the ressources as the files are not embedded in the project but played directly from their storage location.

I think this third point is the reason why you experience this RAM issue.

Try to use List instead of Playlist and keep us posted.

We are in the studio once, maybe twice a week so we need teamviewer for monitoring/scheduling.

I now have disabled VLC and put the clips in a list, we'll see what happens in the next days.

34% memory usage for TeamViewer sounds like the cause of the problem.
It might have a memory leak that depends on what program is running.

Sure, programms can cause memoryleaks.

But still, and i feel this fact is somewhat being ignored, it does not explain the immediate memory drop as vmix closes/restarts. That also happens when not logged on via teamviewer.

Check task manager before and after, as in that screenshot TeamViewer is using over 30% of the memory.
If you close vMix and it drops from 30% then you know what is causing the problem.

What possibly is happening is TeamViewer has a memory leak for applications with a lot of movement (i.e video)
so closing vMix will clear out that leak.

Another solution to find out which app is causing the memory leak is to use another software for remote control.

Windows has RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) utility builtin, VNC is another one and so on. Not sure which one is the best or the "less bad" I should say, but it might help you identify the culprit.
