Hi Guys.

I got a strange case here on a clients production PC.
On a i7, 8Gb RAM, some nVidia card with 2Gb ram and NVENC available (not sure what model is... GT 7xx or 9xx).

3 BM HDMI inputs, FHD 60 frame and one NDI-HX with TS recording.
I'm aware the setup is underpowered and they are in the process buying a replacement.

One thing that intrigues me is the strange behavior.
The CPU load without rec or stream is between 79% and 94%.
When streaming (with Use HW encoder enabled) the CPU load drops between 45% and 65%.

What can be an explanation for this? I know that with HW encoder enabled the encoding for the stream is done in the GPU.
Can this trigger some other GPU offloading also?

Streaming alone can leverage the GPU, as you note, reducing CPU load.

I would expect recording to add considerably to the CPU load.

I have noticed this behavior before as well.

My thought when I see it is that the input previews in vmix switch to hardware-based at the same time the stream starts. There is really no other accounting for it other than something active in the GUI is now offloaded to the GPU.

Could be wrong.
