I'm on a 250Mbps U/D connection with at least 100 of that reserved for the production machine, and in a fit of confusion, I had my stream configured for 360p instead of my normal 720p. With all this favoring a smooth stream, I had a few freezes that concerned me. It's entirely possible that I had connection issues. We had two moments during the broadcast when all 5 vMixCall sessions froze, indicating a connection issue on my part. A first short moment where it may be connection-related, but still not sure on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYcHSofUrTQ&t=20m25sHere's the one that concerns me, as a bad connection would have been dropped stream and we should see nothing, or miss time, but in this instance, you can plainly see frozen video still being streamed for 25 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYcHSofUrTQ&t=35m05sFinally, 38:40-45 was another moment of either connection issue or vMix freezing Many advanced thanks for any help in this matter. I really need to do better for my clients. Best, Chad

Hi,
For the benefit of other users who may run into this problem in the future, we received a support report and we think the issue is due to the laptop being used being overloaded (either CPU or GPU) by a lot of inputs and simultaneous callers.
As a result the stream was running only at 23fps out of 29.97p.
For those looking to use multiple guests in their production (more than 2), I would advise against using a laptop as the CPU is usually a lot slower than a PC and can actually throttle suddenly if the laptop gets too hot.
But as always, keep an eye on the CPU and Render Time during pre-show. 60% is a safe maximum level for the CPU Under 20ms is safe for Render Time on a 29.97p production. Check these values during pre-show or testing while all inputs that will be need to be used are active.

Thanks, Martin. I've used the same laptop for a different show with one more guest (6 callers: Host + 5 panel), and instead of 360p as in this event (regretfully, and accidentally), we were at 720p. It's an i7 with NVidia 850m, which isn't hot stuff, but it's actually done very well for me. Actually, I've done several with the Host + 4 panel (5 vMixCall sessions) and at 720p and never had this issue.
I did recently add a 3rd display for a confidence monitor, which may have stressed the system a bit more.
I'm looking at Hades Canyon as a replacement machine... do you have any input on that upcoming (likely April/May) NUC?
I appreciate the response.
Best,
Chad

Hi This info could be included in the vMix Call Knowledge Base. And perhaps in the plan Comparison Table and linked to on the Reference Systems Page. Especially for those using the Reference Systems’s laptop with the idea of using it for vMix Calls with more than 2 or 3 callers. (Unless the Reference System’s laptop is robust enough for more than 2 callers....) Best, Rowby admin wrote:Hi,
