Hello Everyone. Using vMix version 20.0.0.55 x64 Windows 7 Professional. This morning, when I tried to record my session, and played VLC I received this error: “ Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "MAGY" (No description for this codec)” BTW I get the same error in VLC if I record in MP4 format. Attached is a screen capture of my various settings. Any suggestions? Thanks! Rowby rowby attached the following image(s): Vlc does not like codec2.png (132kb) downloaded 10 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Try to login or register.

The MagicYUV codec is not supported by VLC as it does not use any codecs install to Windows. You can still play the file in Windows Media Player and most video editing software, just not VLC.
To record in a VLC friendly format you can choose MJPEG as the AVI codec, or record to another format like MP4, MPEG or FFMPEG.

Thanks, Choosing MJPEG for my AVI recording did the trick.

I had this same issue and I had to dig the internet for the solution. MagicYUV is an amazing codec to use when recording with vMix because it does not task the CPU. I increased the buffer within vMix to 50, which is the maximum and I don't experience any dropped frame whatsoever despite not recording to an SSD. MagicYUV codec can be obtained here. The installation includes VLC plugin but it only supports version 2.2.x so you will have to download an older version of VLC for it to work. I installed version 2.2.8 which you can obtain from VLC archive here. So grab the two files and install VLC first, then the codec. After the installation of the codec, a readme file will open and it shows what to do to ensure the codec works. For me, the stress is worth it because MagicYUV Codec is truly amazing for my production workflow. I case you are not able to obtain the codec, you can let me know and I might be able to share a google drive link with you.
