Hi Everyone,

As I finalize my system setup, I am testing my streams. Because I have YouTube subscribers, they are automatically notified that I have a "New Video" - and i don't want them to see my tests. :)

SO my question is, is there a way to set up a YouTube stream so that it is a private link, and not public.

And I guess the same is for Facebook videos. Can a "Facebook Live" video be set up as "private".

If there is not a way to do it automatically, then I guess I could set up a non public Facebook page, and a similar non public YouTube page that are just for testing purposes.

Anyone's thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

On YouTube, you can set the privacy settings to unlisted or private.

H rudyengels.

I guess this would work, by setting my YouTube upload default settings to "Unlisted".

Then when I am "really" ready to produce a Live show then I'd need to go in, before my stream, and change my YouTube channel's default upload listing to "Public", before hitting vMix's Stream button.

Is this the way other vMix YouTube Live Streamers are doing this -- in order to allow for testing a new setup before committing to doing a Live You Tube stream?

It would be nice (but perhaps out of vMix's control) if YouTube had an API so that as part of vMix's streaming process you can select whether a stream should go Live or be Unlisted.

Same for Facebook Live videos.

Hello everyone,

Here's some useful information about ensuring that your test streams are kept unlisted, as well as NO notifications will be sent to your channel's subscribers.

Basically you would need to set your default YouTube settings to "UNLISTED" (apparently not to "PRIVATE", but I haven't tested that. You would have to change your Default YouTube settings back to Public before you do a live stream.

Disable upload notifications
When you upload a YouTube video, you can decide whether the video will send notifications to your subscribers. Viewers get a maximum of 5 upload and 5 livestream notifications from each channel in a 24 hour period so if you upload many videos at the same time, or regularly upload multiple videos per day, you may want to disable some notifications.

Disable upload notifications

Using a computer, sign in YouTube.
Upload a video.
At the top of the page, click the "Advanced Settings" tab.
Uncheck the "Notify Subscribers" box.
By deselecting the checkbox for 'Notify Subscribers,' your upload will neither notify subscribers through Notifications (push or email) or through the Subscriptions feed.

It is currently not possible to disable public live stream video notifications. However, unlisted live streams will not send notifications.
