Hi guys, I tried searching, in case this had been discussed before but couldn't find anything.
I've got a BM quad 2 and I'm trying to feed it some HDMI sources via a mini converter.
It can 'see' a sat box or a tablet but can't see a DSLR or a GoPro, even though both of these work fine on a TV.
Anyne got any thoughts?
BTW I went down the list in BM Destop Video and tried every possible input type.

Has anyone got any thoughts at all? This is beggining to realy give me brain ache. I have HDMI -> SDI mini converters and an HDMI -> USB3 converter. If I feed a GoPro or a DSLR into the SDI converter I get nothing. If I feed a GoPro or a DSLR into the USB converter they work. If I feed a cheap Chinese tablet or my Sky box into the SDI converter they work. If I feed the tablet into the USB converter I get a digital mess. Also when something works on the SDI I get a 'confirmation' on the input section of BM Desktop Video Setup. Anyone have any thoughts at all on this? You need to check that the BM gear is working correctly with your device by opening each feed in BM Media Express. That is the first step. Also check that the mini-convertor supports the resolution and frame rate you are sending. Are you sure they are mini not micro convertors? If mini you need to set the dip switches. The converter is a generic Chinese thing rather than a BM one, according to the spec it should accept:- 480i@59.94, 576i, 720p@50/59.94/60, 1080i@50/59.94/60, 1080p@23.98/24/25/29.97/30/50/59.94/60.

Just yesterday I used this cheap chinese converter with gopro-like camera (SJ4000) with no issues. But my capture card was Magewell 4xSDI.
I guess I had similar problems with BM capture card and some cameras, including gopro. Changing video format from default or UYVY to RGB32 helped.

Something else I've noticed is that if I have nothing plugged in to the card, all the outputs just list as 'NTSC'.
BUT when I can get something to connect something like 4 or 5 of the other channels show random output settings like 108025fps or 720@60p.
Why did I think Blackmagic were past the days of poor quality control and letting customers beta test their products :(

GoPros have trouble with the “handshake” on a lot of SDI converters. Some cheaper ones work but you’ll have a pile of them before you’re done figuring out which ones. I’ve been successful using an HDMI splitter inline which talks to the GoPro and then feeds that signal down the line to the SDI converter.
It’s not an ideal setup but it works. I’m not sure how far you are running but vMix gives you a lot of wiggle room with the length of your HDMI cable also. If you have an HDMI capture device you can get a decent distance with that.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried the splitter trick as it's worked for me before with bad HDMI handshakes but not this time :( . Unfortunately I can't lay my hands on any other test sources until after Christmas, my gut feeling is the Quad 2 I've got is about as well made as an 80's Fiat.

we also have trouble with cheap chinese HDMI 2 SDI Converters (only 2 of 6 are working)
the BMD Mini and Micro Converters are working in our systems very well

I got myself some Decimator MD-LX concerters and they are doing fine. If you want it cheap you can get yourself some BMD micro converters at almost the same price as those Chinese shit converters. ;)
