Hi,
I am thinking about building "ultimate" Vmix rig. With AMD TR 16core beast.

Set up would be 6-8 HD SDI cams (50i or 50p - deinterlacing)+ 4 replays, streaming, recording, score etc.

With this set up, will i come to single core performance problem or is Vmix paralised enought to not notice it?

Is there any gain with NV Quatro cards compared to GTX?

Thanks
Kalink

@ Kalink

I would hold off on committing to an AMD build and calling it an "ultimate vMix rig" until it is properly tested and proven. Certainly the specs seem appealing but it's not clear if vMix will actually benefit overall compared to known Intel i5 and i7 processors.

In terms of the Quadro's, AFAIK, the only advantage they bring is the ability to 'encode' more than the 2 instances within the GTX cards.

Just my thoughts.

The tests with Ryzen were not very good, Martin posted about it in this thread:
https://forums.vmix.com/....aspx?g=posts&t=9737

Threadripper seems to be based on the same zen processor, so probably latency will be just as bad.

The 128 lanes sound promising though, so I hope vmix can be optimised to work better with AMD in the future. It would give us acces to so many lanes that 4k productions with many cameras would become possible :)

So, do you think that would be better Intel Core i9-7900X?

@ Kalink

Check out the vMix Fun Time Live Show for August 2017 (if you haven't already):

They just did a new build with the i9 and talk a little about AMD testing...

I will be testing it with vMix Pro and a 16 core 1950X. Honestly, 60 lanes of PCIe and 32 threads is just too much to ignore for that value. We're talking 3X the performance of a 7700K in a lot of these encoding/rendering tests without the hassle of multi system production.

The vMix team does seem hard set on Intel but I've had great results moving from a 6 core intel to the 8 core 1700X Ryzen and I know doubling up on the cores will truly bring us into the 4K age of streaming.
