So i was beta testing for them and have been keeping a close eye on development and looks like we have a shipping date of the first 4K batch in august. here is some notes from the email:
So – tell all your friends and their friends and their friends’ friends to go to our website (www.sub2r.com) RESERVE NOW! Once pre-sale is launched, we will close the reservations. Those who are on the reserve list – we will make sure they definitely get one out of the first limited production run. The best discount on the pre-sale will be offered to those who reserved.
On the hardware front – we are investigating a very exciting new development. If it works, it will significantly improve the foundation of our platform – versatility and configurability. The components are on order, Greg has designed the tests. When (not if!!!) all goes well – we will know early next week – the secondary I/O will be modular – yes, this does mean what you think it means – the user will be able to easily switch between different formats – HDMI, SDI, GigE, etc.
We’ve been meeting with a contract manufacturer who seems like the right company to build our cameras. We are working closely with our key partners like PSC, Evetar, OmniVision, and Arrow to ensure parts are available.
What does this mean for pre-sale?
It is only a matter of When not If.
Timing: Our plan is to launch pre-sale by the second week of August. Making a significant change at this point is no small feat. Our main board is 12 layers, moving components and Tx lanes is not easy. If we go forward with the change, it could add a week - maybe two - to the design mods.
What to expect – performance The first version will come with an interchangeable 1080p @60ufps / 4K @30ufps camera board based on OmniVsion’s OVT10823 1/2.3 sensor.
What it will come with • Camera main processor and housing • Interchangeable 4K/1080p camera board • Lens – interchangeable • V-Mount (still in dev) • USB 3.0 C to C data and power cable • USB 3.0 A to C cable • AC/DC adapter

It may be a bit higher now. I do like the fact that the secondary I/O is now modular. USB 3.0C is primary I/O, secondary can be Ethernet, HD-SDI or HDMI.

Rob No. they've implemented the hardware interface (Ethernet) and a streaming protocol (RTMP+H264) but not NDI. The camera includes an FPGA and they intend that the user community would implement other protocols. I suggested NDI, but it was deemed less a priority than the H264 baseline. So, no NDI on day 1, but the opportunity to have NDI or NDI-HX if someone cares to implement it. If Newtek makes sample FPGA code available that might happen quickly.
