Have any of you experienced having your live stream end prematurely?

vMix 19.0.0.43 stream log reports:

[flv @ 053b8340] Failed to update header with correct duration."

This was on Facebook after ~30 min of live streaming. No hardware or software changes and running on solid wired connection.

Later I tried to recreate this, and got a similar log after 1h28m. This time with more errors:

Code:

In 2015 there was a similar report here from two users experiencing the same on Twitch and sermon.net:

https://forums.vmix.com/...aspx?g=posts&m=16360

It wasn't solved.

Google has plenty of hits on these errors (see below), but I haven't been able to find a definite cause or fix yet.

av_interleaved_write_frame(): Unknown error
[flv @ ...] Failed to update header with correct duration.
[flv @ ...] Failed to update header with correct filesize.

Hi,

These errors will always occur when a stream is stopped, so don't worry about looking up the errors as it won't reveal anything.
What most likely happened is the network connection got cut off during the stream, this could be a server issue or an internet issue.

If the stream is left running, vMix will automatically reconnect when the connection comes back up and continue where it left off.

Regards,

Martin

I have found an issue with facebook if you try to stream at too high a bitrate. They seem to clip it at 2Mbps, I found as soon as I dropped my video bit rate to 1500Kbps, and kept my audio at 128Kbps things became solid as a rock. I have a Gbit internet connection so know it wasn't my end being the bottleneck.

Thanks kgoodyer. If Facebook servers can't sustain the 4 Mbps which they have defined as the recommended max bitrate, it is something we have to react to. I'll try dropping the bitrate and test for myself.

Facebook Live has a ~3 minute grace period where the connection can be reestablished before the stream is ended. From what kgoodyer has experienced and from my own testing, it seems that the issues could be at Facebook's own data centers. I have tried running to two Facebook streams from vMix where one stream failed after 20 min. The other stream worked from start to finish. What do you make of this?
