Problems with ASIO as audio input

Hi all,
I'm planning to use VMix to record video for later uploading to YouTube. The plan is make videos about using the DAW (digital audio workstation) FL Studio. FL Studio is set up with an ASIO output (FL's native ASIO, although I could use ASIO4all if needed) which outputs to my sound "card", a Focusrite 2i2 external box.
I was able to use my webcam as the video input and capture the FL studio desktop as well, so for video, I'm set.
For audio, I have a microphone as an input into the Focusrite box. I'm able to choose this microphone (and the Focusrite input) for the vocal audio, and this works great.
The other thing I need to be able to do is output the audio from FL Studio into VMix. I can choose the ASIO as an audio input, the proper channels show up, but I never get any audio into VMix. I know other people route the ASIO audio out and mix with the mike input using hardware, but I am trying to avoid this, and it seems as though I should be able to make it work with VMix.
Thanks for reading. I would appreciate any advice!
Ken
