It appears to me that saving a new 'subject' in the youtube 'stream now' form https://www.youtube.com/live_dashboard will create a new youtube url for the stream. I'm wanting to set the url of a future event and then stream to this url on the day (I may stream youtube tests between now and the event). Is it possible to set a future event on youtube?

Sorry, probably I didn't explain this well. What I'm actually looking for is where I already have a youtube stream set up in advance. I therefore have the youtube url where the event is waiting to go live. How do I set vMix stream settings to stream to this specific youtube url?

You have 2 options
the 1st one is fully automatic when selecting YT as streaming provider the 2nd one is to use custom RTMP server

Sligthly simplified each live event has a unique "stream key" provided by YouTube. The stream URL (not the same as the URL to view at) is typically always the same. As from vMix v19 you can set up using the stream destination "Youtube live" and use that key. Alternatively you use the event's custom settings to obtain the key (and URL) to be used in vMix's stream destination "Custom RTMP". See also https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853700Note, you can start to stream in vMix to Preview (test) the stream in YouTube. But as soon as you click "Go live" in Youtube's control room that key can not be used again (at later times).

Thanks guys.
So here is my YouTube workflow for setting up scheduled stream. Any comments?
Setting scheduled youtube stream.
1. Add/schedule new live event 2. Add thumbnail 3. select bitrate and save 4. In ‘other encoders’ copy stream name into vMix streaming settings (Custom RTMP server selected) 'stream name or key’ & Save 5. Click ‘start’ in vMix streaming settings 6. In youtube go to ‘live control room’ and select ‘preview’ and wait for ‘start streaming’ button 7. Select ‘start streaming’ button
You are now live.
8. To stop stream at ‘live control room’ press ‘stop streaming’ and ‘Stop’ in vMix streaming settings.
Once stopped, the stream cannot be restarted. I presume if a restart of same stream was needed, ‘youtube live stream now’ would need to be selected at vMix ‘streaming settings’.

Your flow seems correct. Yes, you can use stream now if you need in that fashion. Although it will create a new video. Also, if you create a custom stream in Youtube that stream key is always the same. So, if you later on create new events in YouTube, and use your custom stream, then it will be the same stream destination in vMix (Custom URL and name). As YouTube advice: test, test, and test again :)
