The addition of a specific timecode or timestamp option for the vMix Recorder & vMix Multicorder would be a great benefit for all those using vMix generated recordings in video editing applications. The formats of interest for timecode (timestamps) are MPEG2, MPEG4, ProRes & DNxHD. Adding the FFmpeg command “-timecode” in the vMix “ffmpegformats.xml” file for those formats capable of storing such timecode information. At the moment, if you add the "-timecode" command with a timecode value HH:mm:ss:ff into the vMix “ffmpegformats.xml” file, it is ignored until such time as the User restarts the vMix application. The actual “ffmpegformats.xml” file should be read just prior to recording for this to successfully occur. As seen below in the Settings/Record dialog, there would be three options. No selection with timecode set by default at 00:00:00:00. “Time of Day” would record the current system time of the computer. Preset for the User to define the timecode start for the recording/s. Don’t forget to +1 if you wish to have this feature. Thanks.

It is only until very recently that I discovered that the vMix MultiCorder and the vMix Recorder do not include time of day timecode. Only ever used the feature within the confines of the vMix application. It is not very helpful in the corporate/film/tv industry where “time of day” timecode is commonly used in both recording and later editing of the multiple angles for productions, where there are multiple scenes and takes. Also required for long form productions such as sports (golf, tennis, athletics ...) where the multi-cam or iso recordings maybe for many, many hours, to be edited later using multi-cam editing software. Time of day timecode enables various members of the production team a point of reference for highlights or fixups, as time pieces such as your watch, mobile phone, studio clock or OB clock are readily available to assist in this task by operators, directors/assistants and producers. There have been requests for this feature over many years: https://forums.vmix.com/...ultirecord-with-timecodehttps://forums.vmix.com/...ecode-in-vMix-recordingshttps://forums.vmix.com/...1-LTC-Timecode-Generatorhttps://forums.vmix.com/.../t21822-Timecode-for-all“Time of day” timecode is the timing reference that binds all those Iso Recordings together.Martin, I trust that this request is achievable in short order for such professional/broadcast software.

+2 It always blows my mind when I send ISO recordings off or use them and there is no timecode. I end up putting it in the frame myself and then transcoding it with the timecode when I have to. I always say to myself that can't be right and then I end up moving on. So yes I would love to see timecode options! vMix uses FFmpeg as the underlying code for recording which has timecode available in the script, yet is not utilized. It’s only one word (-timecode) in the vMix “ffmpegformats.xml” file that makes the difference.
So many other video software recording systems have this feature. FFmpeg GUI, FFmbc, Livestream Studio, Indytek Insta Capture ($49), Medialooks Direct Take, amongst many others.
The difference between being consumer software and prosumer/professional software.

Hi Martin. Below some simple .Net code to facilitate the addition of timecode for the vMix Recorder & vMix MultiCorder. It requires the “iTimecode” string to be added at the end of the FFmpeg commands in the ffmpegformats.xml file. That is of course if you use the ffmpegformats.xml as the command base prior to recording and not the last.vmix file as your reference. A demonstration app of the above code can be sourced from Google Drive to show how this may be accomplished. It’s only 44KB in size and is standalone. It is very important to have this facility so that we can use vMix Recorder and MultiCorder in our day to day multi-camera productions. I thank-you for your consideration. https://drive.google.com...KFBR6RU/view?usp=sharing

Can’t believe this is not available by default. We use timecode all the time for editing.
Is there a simple way of making this happen through shortcuts or the api?
Maybe an xml editor and a macro to modify the fmpegformats.xml to update the timecode values prior to recording. I see this has been requested many times before.
Can the developers provide some ideas. Happy to assist :)

"Time Code – Virtually Unchanged After Almost 50 Years", yet most software based recorders and editing systems, plus older hardware systems (XDCam, HD Betacam, Blackmagic recorders/capture cards ...) have this as a standard must-have included feature. But NOT vMix after all this time and feature requests. A wonderful historical feature about Timecode can be viewed on the ProVideo Coalition website: https://www.provideocoal...d-after-almost-50-years/
