I have been looking at the thread - Duplicate input button (not virtual!)

It kind of looks at this topic.

Using a virtual input you can reference an [image input] and have it used as a background - then by adjusting layers on each virtual input created you can create your "look".

however if you accidently delete the [original input] - you loose your background on all associated [virtual inputs] - so of course you press [undo]. The original input returns - however the association of the image input (as a background) does not return to the virtual inputs. So you are left with a black background on all you linked show looks..... if you have setup that way.

I am guessing there is a few ways a feature could be used??

creating a specific [background input]?? that can be referenced and changed when creating a "look"/ scene.... and that can be changed easily on all inputs that reference that background image.... so when your client says change it - or if you stuffed up and put in the wrong background - you can change this on the fly...... two ways to change it...

1. best by choosing / changing to a new background on each compiled input/ scene.... so you can do this to any input individually -dodging the input that is live to program. ( here you would need to create a new duplicate to work on, and of course a DUPLICATE goes back to the thread referenced at the top of this one). So perhaps if you had a pallet of background images to choose from.

2. If that pallet also allows each background image slot to be swapped out for a new image - you could change all referenced inputs at once for a quick pre show or intermission alteration.

Thanks and appreciate any input - maybe im just missing some other way of doing this.... if you could re-reference a virtual input back to its previously deleted and re-instated input that would be a start - and to be able to do that re-linking to any input and use its base layer - no other layers - would be a good way to resolve this.

Another possibility is to warn you that an input is used in "X" other inputs before allowing you to delete it or even refusing to delete an input that is used anywhere else.

Use a photos input for the "background" instead of a single image.
