Hi vMix team. It would be gratefull if you could implement a shortcut function to be able to set position of the overlays withing a multiview scene.

Lets say i have 4 overlays on a blank scene. I woud like to be able to asigne one knob to the overlay 1 within that multiview scene, since i need to manually adjust the overlay position everythime.

So lets say, i would have a key that can SetYPosition of overlay 1 of the input 1

Overlays or Multiview layers ?

Multiview layers: one currently can position the original input (or virtual counterpart)used in the multiview with shortcuts for the same effect (until your wish is granted)

Overlays: fun things one can do (and some scripting) for something similar

(2 Overlay PIP switching with single shortcut
Overlay1 and Overlay2 PIP inputs changing as usual
Ignored if no two overlays (PIPs) )

The problem with this is I would need to create a virtual input for each composition, and therefore, it becomes a littlebit more complex with the akai apc 40. I already have 19 shortcuts fuinctions only for the different compositions.

no you wouldnt ! one input (or virtual copy if you want to retain the original) where shortcuts have a predefined positions ( just as one would have to with your feature request) unless you can get your position data from somewhere else .

One step further could be a way to use a script to let you specify which input then you only would need one per position

Is hard to envision your real goal (i understand it as being able to reposition)

The video is just something else but similar ( confusing right ) 3 inputs and all these combination posibilities with one shortcuts ( scripted) and a few controls being overlay selection)

When making vmix projects that use many layers with the same input on the same layer number for movement (and keeping most layers on but off screen).

For example
layer 1 = background
Layer 2 = Call/slot 1
Layer 3 = Call/Slot 2
Layer 4 = Call/Slot 3
Layer 5 = Call/slot 4
Layer 6 = Call/Slot 5
Layer 7 = Call/Slot 6
Layer 8
Layer 9
Layer 10 = Media

If making a 4 way panel,
Call 1 - PanX value is negative (ie -0.3)
Call 2 - PanX value is positive same value as Call 1 Pan X (+0.3)
Call 3 - PanX value is negative and same value (-0.3)
Call 4 - PanX value is positive same value as Call 1 Pan X (+0.3)

Or to align bottom (PanY) for Call 1 + 2 would be the same

If there were functions to script layer position (Zoom, panX, PanY) then we could move Call 1 and then script the rest (mostly).
We could also make function with arrow keys and move boxes (with streamdecks)

These values are shown in the vmix active api xml.. it be great to be able to have more control over them

Love how Layer Movements work with Merge... and have made great use of Merge. Most of shows are build with many Merge Moves and i often keep Layers ON but Off Screen so they move in nicely.

I'm now wanting to program control panels and scripts to make positioning quicker and easier for my team (both in Australia and worldwide).

I.e. use script to aline boxes - I already know how to do this manually, ie get a position value of a box on the left and just change the panX value to a positive number, or take PanY and use that number to aline bottom of all boxes.

Looking at Virtual Inputs is a way to do this, as it the only way of changing the position via function/script but then would end up many more inputs, like 50 to 100 more inputs, and hard to make all the Moves work (at lease in the way i know how).

So my question is around having a API for setting position [x, y, zoom] of an input Overlay (index 0 to 9) -- I can see how getting data from the active xml sheet and reading the overlay values, along with Dynamic Values (within xml Slots) and scripts could make a next level control panel.

Could we get an Overlay Position API Please

+1

Overlay position API would be incredibly useful in speeding up my day to day work with vMix remotely +1
