I just upgraded to vMix 12 HD and I'm trying to upgrade my stringers to full HD but vMix seems to be fussy with respect to what works well and what doesn't... I'm just wondering if there is something in my render settings that perhaps influences vMix's playback? I have always preferred .avi files for SD but vMix and windows are not fond of my HD AVI renders and they do not always provide smooth playback. Quicktime files seem to work better but I'm having some issues. In particular, some files seem to play fine initially as stinger transitions but then subsequently hang or rather do not "restart" or respond to shortcut key triggers. The blue highlight on overlay key activates but video stinger wont play because video is at end, hitting the play button will activate stinger transition but subsequent behavior is erratic, either the same or plays without audio. Closing the input and reloading it seemed to cure the issue on the third attempt, but what is going on? Other files seem behave perfectly all the time, so I would like to figure out what the issue is...

Hi,
Firstly make sure you are running vMix 12.0.0.128 or later, there were some fixes with playback when using MOV files. Importantly, make sure "Automatically restart with transition" is ticked in the Input Settings, otherwise the video clip may not restart each time you start the stinger.
Failing that, let me now as much information about the video format, size codec, file type and length so I can run some tests.
Regards,
Martin vMix

@ Martin Yes, vMix 12.0.0.129 x64 installed and running on windows7 i7 950 nvidia470. MOV clips made with After Effects CS5 and I find my rendering options are somewhat limited (I've never been fond of Adobe's Quicktime render, but HD AVI render's often stutter on playback both in vMix and with WindowMediaPlayer) Ticking the boxes in input settings had no real impact on the Stinger transition. As indicated, after re-loading the input it seems to be working fine, I'm just not sure what caused the issue in the first place and was wondering if it is something in the file... As such, I have included a link to the files for further testing and/or general use by the community: https://www.dropbox.com/...eplay%20Stingers%202.zipThis is a link to the SD clips in action (the HD clips are basically the same only in HD): SD clips are available here: http://forums.vmix.com.a....aspx?g=posts&t=1749Ice

Thanks, let me know the overlay settings you are using for that stinger and what I need to do step by step to see the problem.

@ Martin As near as I can figure, the issue is related to the "Duration" setting The Instant Replay clip worked fine from the get go, no matter what the duration setting (it's a 10 second clip). The Live Action clip was problematic for a couple of different rendered versions (it's a 4 second clip) If the duration was set below the clip length, the issue appears...
Settings used: Number: Stinger 1 Type: Fullscreen Effect: Fade Effect Duration: 100 ms Duration: 5000 ms Stinger Input: SportsAction Instant Replay Stinger HD.mov Stinger Cut Point: 500 ms Alpha: 255
Number: Stinger 2 Type: Fullscreen Effect: Fade Effect Duration: 100 ms Duration: 4000 ms (works fine) 3000 ms (issue) Stinger Input: LiveActionStingerHD2.mov Stinger Cut Point: 1000 ms Alpha: 255

LiveActionStingerHD2.mov was not included in the zip file, could you upload it?

Might take a while... Live Action Stinger HD.mov was the initial render and displayed the issue as well, hence why I re-rendered... Slow internet here so it may take several hours to upload.

As I re-test with Live Action Stinger HD.mov, it does not engage audio with transition. If I activate audio always on it's fine, otherwise, as a stinger it's silent???

The zip file contained Replay Stinger HD.mov and SportsAction Instant Replay Stinger HD.mov
Regarding audio you will need to disable automatic audio mixing and turn on audio manually for stingers.

Both those files are the original renders... The re-renders are currently uploading but I don't think they will exhibit anything different (I will post the link once they complete). My question is why do files behave differently for the Stinger Transition? "Replay Stinger HD.mov" plays fine (with audio) regardless of the automatic settings ticked in "input settings". "SportsAction Instant Replay Stinger HD.mov" needs to have audio manually turned on. Are you able to reproduce these issues or is it just me? Is this an x64 issue with MOV files? Would it be better to use AVI files (with alpha)? Are there particular settings to be used to render to AVI for HD? Just trying to get to the bottom of this, your insight is most appreciated.

Both of those files are 12 seconds in length, which is why I need the 4 second clip you mentioned.
Audio settings might depend on the order you added the inputs, but as long as the audio button is green the audio should play.

Yes, my bad, the original dropbox upload had 2 identical files with different names in the zip folder... The new folder is still uploading. How do audio settings depend on the order in which the inputs are added? I am now testing with vMix (32 bit) and the behaviors are similar other than I cannot reproduce the "hanging issue" yet. And the cut point timings need to be adjusted???

The first input you add will automatically be sent to output and therefore the audio will be switched on. All other inputs will have audio off by default, you can see the status by observing the audio button.
If it is green and you can't hear audio then that might be a bug.

OK, that's starting to make sense if you mean the first input you add as a stinger input and somehow that routing is saved even if you change the input to something else later... Upload complete, new link: https://www.dropbox.com/...eplay%20Stingers%202.zipOn a slightly different note, why are the cut point timings different for x32 and x64?

The cut point timings may be different due to QuickTime used for MOV files in x32 while FFMPEG is used for x64.
I've been able to re-create the stinger issue under some rare circumstances, still trying to narrow down the cause. It looks like the video does not start correctly when it happens, clicking the little play button underneath the input appears to kick start it again and the stinger transition completes as per normal.
