We've been tracking a major problem in vMix for a few weeks now and it is getting worse.

The audio device is dropping out during a live stream/record several times every hour. Basic Input 1-2 stop, Audio Input has to be re-added into vMix and then it works for a while.

Setup is: Focusrite scarlett 4i4 - ASIO device loaded input 1-2 for main audio Bus A, 3-4 audio Bus B (commercial playback mix-minus channel).
- 48kHz (to match vMix Calls)
- 24 bit depth
- 1020 buffer size (increased due to drop out issues)

During normal host mic audio - 1-2 input drops completely (on the stream 1st then on the vMix interface) - Audio Input has to be re-added into project and then works again.

Troubleshooting steps thus far:
- updated Focusrite Drivers (had no effect)
- uninstalled Focusrite completely - re-installed (had no effect)
- checked sample rates - Main audio console is 48k, Focusrite 48k, vMix 48k - all devices and sources at 48k
- updated vMix (no effect).
- uninstalled vMix - reinstalled vMix (no effect).
- re-created show project file (no effect)
- started new project file from scratch (no effect).

Hi.

Have you enabled the newish "Audio Gap Handling" (set it to Resample) and see if the issue persists.

More info how to enable the feature is here: https://www.vmix.com/help24/Audio.html

Thanks! I found that new option and we've changed it to resample
We're testing with the new settings now.

that resample setting doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

We set the Focusrite Buffer to 1024, as fucosrite suggested and vMix forces it to 960 once the input is added into a vMix project.

vMix also seems to force 32bit floating point, even though Focusrite is set to 24bit.

:/ Yes, I have also noticed that vMix changes ASIO buffer allocations little strangely.. and yes it would be nice to be able to set all sampling settings as needed.

One point I got so sick and tired with all the audio issues and hassle with vMix and USB audio interfaces so that I ditched all USB audio solutions with it.

Now using BMD Mini Converter Audio (audio embedder from 8 ch AES/EBU or 4 ch analog audio to SDI)- converter to embed the audio from the audio mixer to one of the camera inputs and now the audio issues are gone with "Audio Gap Handling" set to Resample.

Hi,

Unfortunately some Focusrite audio interface are known to drop out at random on some computers.
This is not a vMix issue, as the device itself just stops sending audio entirely.

The only solution on these systems is to go with a different manufacturer such as Behringer UMC series etc.

N.B: This is not related to buffer sizes or sample rates.

Regards,

Martin

We are having issues I would describe exactly the way you doo, but with a Rødecaster 2.
I will make a separate post for it, but figured it could be mentioned herre as well.
