another idea would be to add hardware inserts and have a checkbox to use them as direct outs.. functionality wise they are similar, inserts are an output and an input, direct out is just the output.. so if you added inserts it probably wouldn't be difficult to add an option to only split to the output (without needing the return) then you have direct outs also ?
having both these functions would improve vMix audio side a fair bit and it could be a bit of two for one deal development wise ?

Yes please - or even the ability to have mono buses and have double the number! They fill up very quickly, especially as you can have 8 callers and can't send them all their own cleanfeed without tying up every single output including the master!

Due to the (somewhat unique) nature of my setup, I'm using all of my available audio busses, but I have some ideas that'd require another bus or 2.
Even just 1 or 2 more busses for 4K would be really beneficial.

Or if it’s too taxing on a computer, +1 for an ability to chose either 7 stereo buses (plus M) or 14 mono buses (plus M).

In some case with a lot of translators I need more buses and i don't need all in stereo.
So the possibility to choose for each buse, 2 mono buses or 1 stereo would be great.

As above, if we can't have more stereo buses, then 14 Mono buses would be an OK solution.

and as a few others have said - if more stereo isn't possible then the ability to split some / all into mono to increase capacity would work
