Not a Vmix issue, but other Vmixers may have come across this and resolved it.

In our studio, we split the program output to multiple monitors, so that the mixer and the floor can monitor the current program output. GPU is a GT1660

Our problem is that with any type of splitter in line, the output to a second monitor is unreliable. This has nothing to do with Vmix output, Windows is unable to see the second monitor from time to time when a splitter is in line. Remove the splitter and replace with a coupler and all is good again.

I've tried all of the following, in some cases it appeared to fix the issue, only for it to return days or weeks later. Currently I can't get any second monitor output when a splitter is in line, whatever I try.

  • Substitute all HDMI cables
  • Different makes of splitter. All 4K, but output is FHD.
  • Roll back video drivers. This seemed to work for a while. Currently back on 462.59.
  • Turn off Windows Fastboot for a clean start each boot. This seemed to help, but no longer.
  • Ensure PC, splitter and monitors are completely powered down and disconnected from AC prior to boot
  • Experiment with powering up components (monitor, splitter and PC) in different orders.

It seems some of my actions have temporarily overcome the the issue by, presumably, changing the state of something. Question is, what is the something so I can reliably fix this the in future?

When a splitter is used, Windows only sees the first connected monitor, this is normal behaviour.
Make sure all monitors behind your splitter support and share exactly the same specs.
I also have a GTX1660 and use a splitter to feed all sorts of monitors and devices (HDMI to SDI converters and/or external hardware encoders) and everything works fine. Only thing to care about is not to hot plug a new device when vMix is already setup as it often results in breaking the setup.
