Is there a way to make a stinger transition follow the outline of the stinger instead of having to make it fullscreen to make the cut over point?
This is my example. I want the video from the preview to be in the black area behind the W

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not really but maybe with a bit of adaptation and timing and using the Wipe transition:

That's helpful but not quite what I'm looking for. Hard to believe there's not a way to do this but I can't figure it out

If it's really that important:

have a multi view with 2 layers of the same input , hide the top one and add a key/fill input that has a more slanted edge to the other one
add a trigger to it OnTransitionOn (slide transition) to set the MultiviewoverlayOn of the hidden full frame layer delayed slightly shorter than the transition time and matching the graphics used for the stinger position and time or something like that

Essentially, the Stinger Transition is only a "Cut" hidden by an Overlay and what you need with that video is a "wipe" to a third element (i.e. A/B transition on screen simultaneously) which is not currently possible with vMix.
I would suggest possibly reworking your video with a comet trail of some sort (in the black) that fades to an alpha channel as it crosses the screen, that way you can make the "Cut" when the Stinger is fullscreen and it will give a similar effect to what you are looking for.

You could run your feed through mix b with a wipe transition in time with the w being played as an overlay.

I made a very similar transition work that is a horizontal video clip transition that never goes full screen, and thus instead of a simple cut underneath, requires a properly timed horizontal wipe underneath the video transition, with these (sorta) simple steps:

- make shortcut on a keyboard or midi button...

Function = OverlayInput3 (or whichever overlay channel you want)
Input = whatever your video with alpha channel is

- make two triggers on whatever your video with alpha channel is

First Trigger =

Trigger = OnOverlayIn
Function = Wipe
Input = Preview
Duration = 500 (might need to adjust this)
Delay = 200 (will need to adjust this delay to fit your wipe)

Second Trigger =

Trigger = OnCompletion
Function = OverlayInput3Out
Input = Preview
Duration = 500

Voila!
