Is it possible inside of GT to have an image layer position set by a text layer, in this example I would like for the sail image to move across the screen in the same way as you can do with a Rectangle with bounding boxes.

Now Playing Title

or is this something I will need to wrestle with Blend to achieve?

your link is not proper

Have you tried ?

bounding boxes grow/shrink with the text , not just move !
you could like with rect but don't think it's the effect you are looking for

Thanks updated the image link.

What im trying to achieve is have it so that the track title etc will push the sail further across the screen when it is animated, I could just put the sail to the left of it if its easier, but wanted the sail to look like it is uncovering the text as it moves across the screen

Ok this is now a completely different explanation of what you want to achieve. Initially you asked if an image could move based on the length of text (like a bounding box), now its an image that has to animate( move) to reveal a text (behind it ? ) . so what is it ? When does it has to animate, on overlay in ? ? What sail ?

Weird, I can see it in my original post,

maybe im just using the wrong terminology, the technical side I can deal with most things, but creating Content is new to me.
