A similar request is found in Bounding Box Behavior on Empty TextBlock. My intention here is just to make it more specific with use cases and a suggestion of how it might be implemented.

The current design of the bounding feature in GT is to leave the padding as specified even when the object that the bounding is tied to is empty. That means for example that if the padding is specified as 10, 10, 10, 10 - there will be a 20x20 square visible for empty objects.

In some cases some objects will intentionally be empty. For example, a two-liner lower third where the first line is a name and the second is a title. We frequently have productions where some people want a title, and others don´t. And the text objects are fed from a datasource which requires a single Title Input, like:
Code:
Richard Gatarski;CEO
Donald Duck;
Mickey Mouse;Head mouse

Another case is when we add open subtitles and use bounding to provide a black background for the captions. Captions consists typically of one or two lines. The attached image illustrates how a one line caption looks like given the current design of GT.

My request is to add the following option to the bounding format setting:
Code:
[ ] no padding for empty objects

This would hopefully not be too difficult to implement and allow for backwards compatibility if the default is "off". Maybe an implementation that supports all kind of objects would be tricky to implement. In that case I think that a limitation to "Text objects" only would still be very valuable.
