What is Loop 1 & Loop 2 in Audio input settings?

I've been trying to find a way to record my midi keyboard (usb into computer) as well as my inputs on my usb interface (focusrite 18i8). This would be easy if my keyboard could plug into my interface, but it's midi usb, which is not available on the hardware.
So anyways, I found a way to get both to register on Vmix, but I don't understand it.
For the midi keyboard, i have to select Audio input-focusrite usb asio-loop 1 (as opposed to input 1 or 2 etc)
So what is "Loop" in this particular situation?
