I have a need for some extra input/outputs.

At present I have an AJA IO 4K+ which gives me 4 I/O ports. I will need two more.

Does VMix support connecting two AJA IO 4K+ to the same system?

In the past I had luck using the AJA IO 4K+ for input and a DeckLink UltraStudio for output at the same time. But those are different interfaces. What about multiple of the same kind?

Thanks,
Jan

Following up on that....

I checked with AJA support and they indicated that their drivers should support multiple interfaces.

However, upon testing it with two IO 4K+ on separate TB3 buses, both of which are seen by the Windows TB utility, only one shows up in VMix. Also the AJA control center utility has not provision to switch between multiple units. So for now that does not seem to work, which is a shame.

Assuming that this is feasible, that would be a definite feature request.

My desired I/O config would have been:

Interface 1:

Input 1-3: 3 in-studio cameras
Input 4: Submix from another VMix system that receives 5 VMix calls

Interface 2:

Output 1: Program output for studio screens
Output 2: Multi-view output for show caller

I've been able to make that work so far with AJA I/O for the first 4 inputs, then an BMD UltraStudio for the program output, and a BMD MiniMonitor for the multi-view. The multiple BMD interfaces are recognized by VMix. But it's just a more ugly patchwork.

Update & Conclusion:

While it may not be officially supported, it does work in the end, and I just finished a two day show running two AJA I/O for 4 inputs and 2 outputs combined without issues.

It can be a tad finicky and twice I had to restart VMix for both interfaces to be seen, but it was reliable enough to use it. If it doesn't show, just re-connect the TB3 connector and it usually comes back.

I ran this on a Dell Precision laptop with 8-core i9 and Nvidia Quadro 4000. No performance issues and no heat issues.

Question - were you limited to the two outputs on the second device?***

I know its PCIe vs TB3, but I was only able to use two ports of my second KONA 3G card while the first card was running four inputs.
I kept getting errors when trying to use a third port for in or out.

Lastly & fwiw, AJA Control Panel has a drop down at the top to manage my dual card setup:

AJA Control Panel w/ multiple devices

*** - EDIT: I'm dumb, vMix maxes out on two external outputs

@yimmyo - I didn't have anything connected to the 7th and 8th output, so I can say for certain. They did all show up in the selection.

Good to know about the control panel drop down. I didn't see that. I'll have to check again.

Have you tried daisy-chaining the IO4K+? I've seen all inputs that way in the past.
