I seem to have intermittent issues with our desktop capture. Both the capture computer and the receiving computer have higher end Radeon cards with 2gb of ddr5 ram and pretty fast processors. It dips down from 30 down to about 23 or 24 every so often, creating choppy video. We are showing this video live on our screens in our church, so it is important to have consistent frame rates. What is going to most largely effect the FPS? What could I upgrade to make sure that I get a consistent 30? Both computers have at least 8gb of ram and a 1st gen i7.

Because of the way the Desktop Capture works (it creates a photo file such as a JPG for each frame of video and sends that over the LAN), I would suspect the issue is with the overall resolution of the photo and/or the speed/reliability of your LAN. Are you capturing a full screen resolution at 1920x1080 or something smaller.

Also, if you are just playing videos, why not load them on the main vMix machine and play them from there in a video module.

We are capturing the video of the computer that is running lyrics and movies. This way we are able to have our center screen be a different feed than the outside screens.

We dont have much traffic and should have a good 100mbps throughput.

What quality options have you tried?
Gigabit is generally needed for HighJPEG and 100mbps for MediumJPEG @ 30fps

For perfectly smooth video capture, you will need a capture device like the Magewell XI100DUSB which supports
capturing computer displays.

Right now we are doing medium JPEG.

Its interesting because when I look at the desktop capture window it show a consistent 30 or 31fps. However when the very small and quick lag happens, the desktop capture doesnt show a dip. I wonder how much the network would have to do with it. We have very little traffic in the building. If vMix doesn't receive all the packets of a frame will it simply drop the frame?
