Good day everyone
I need to start by saying that I am totally delighted with VMix as a most excellent piece of video compilation and broadcasting software. The online video tutorials are A+++ (Tim is really a great teacher !)
Thanks to Vmix our Church has been able to reach people in quarantine all over the world.
OK - praise over:
I have been using VMix for several months without any problem but yesterday compiled this video and put in onto YouTube:

You will see that the presenter's image is incredibly blurry. She was shot at 720p and is against a green screen. When compiling the video, in the output preview screen on the right her image is needle sharp, but on the main output screen (if I turn it on) and in the recorded video, the result is terrible. The CPU is showing as running at about 80% and the GPU at 40%. I am guessing that I need to tweak the MP4 encoder settings - I don't need compression when I am actually recording because I can compress offline later.
I know full well that this problem is operator error and not the package, and would really appreciate any tips anyone can offer.
I could also output to another format because I can convert offline later as well if this would give me a better result.
All best wishes to all VMixers everywhere
Clive

Hi Doggy
I comnpletely accept that - I have noted that tip in one of Tim's videos. BUT the original image of the presenter was also needle-sharp and it looked very balanced.....

you say presenter @ 720 , what was the rest of your setup? your settings?
you mention "guessing that I need to tweak the MP4 encoder settings" that is for us also a guess not knowing what the were for example
Overall one will need a bit more details in order for some to be able to help

Salut Clive

as Doggy said we need more info about your recording settings and setup. Which camera? How is it connected to vMix (cable or streaming protocol)? Computer specs and so on...

Before anything else, the CPU/GPU is very high for what the video is. This needs to be explained. Are there any apps running in the background?

Also tell us what are the codecs for your background video.

From what I can see your encoding settings are way too low in terms of bitrate and certainly very wrongly set. Besides, your background makes it terribly difficult to encode as the moving leaves make all pixels change from one frame to another and the wrongly set encoder struggles to try to cope with it. I believe, even with bad settings, the encode of the lady would be much better if you had a static image behind her. This being said, it's possible to get good results but it requires much better settings.

Also it's recommended to always have a fullscreen monitor in use with vMix to clearly see what your output looks like. Trusting the preview and program windows in vMix is a bad practise. Reduced views always look better than full size views.

Thank you for showing an interest. Because you asked about the settings - a very fair question - I decided that when all failed I should RTFM (Re-read the F****ing Manual). I went online and tested various formats, and there was a tip in the FFMPEG format notes about raising the bitrate. I wondered if I had missed a point on the MP4 settings and found that the default bitrate was only 8, but of course it can be pushed WAAAAY up. So I moved it up to 16MBits per second and ran a short recording test with the same original footgage and, lo and behold - the picture is needle sharp !
FYI I am using the Vmix MP4 settings for H264Main with my hardware encoder turned on and the Bit Rate set to 16
This has totally solved my problem - when in doubt - increase the bitrate ?!
This is why I just love VMix, they let you tweak anything to get it right !
Have a great day and thank you for showing an interest.
Every good wish

I believe the problem comes with how codecs work and the background. You have x-amount of bandwidth. If you have a very detailed moving background it will take up all the bandwidth. The speaker on the other hand is an area of low motion and change and thus get only a litte amaount of the data.
The exact same happens if you place the talent in front of a LED wall. All the leds will eat up the bandwidth and very little is left over for the talent.
This is the way the codec works. In your case, blur the background or make change it to a static shot, then the results (same settings etc) will look different.
