Jean-Baptiste Kempf, the president of the VideoLAN org, has started about one month ago a reverse-engineering development in order to release a LGPL version for LibNDI.

Work is in progress but this project will allow NDI to be supported natively by VLC and FFMPEG (again) without using the Newtek SDK and libraries which do not conform to the LGPL rules.

At present, it appears that the library only supports playing an NDI stream. But it's early days for this most welcome effort.
