Hello everyone!

I am relatively new to vMix and live streaming in general. The company that I work for has a pretty large following for its podcast, videos, and blogs but we have just begun making the step from a level 2 streamer to a level 3 or 4. As expected, we have encountered some technical issues along the way. I am about a month into our transition and I discovered early on that we needed to add a significant amount of audio delay (380 ms) to sync the video and audio during our live streams.

The problem that I am having now is that the delay is suddenly playing back into the headphones of the host. As you might imagine, 380 millisecond of audio delay can be very distracting. My question is, how can I make it so that the host is hearing himself in real time but still keep the delay for our syncing purposes. I tested this before coming to the forum and if I remove the delay, the issue goes away as far as the host is concerned but then the video and audio no longer align.

Any suggestions?

All software mixers and DAWs will have some sort of delay. The signal travels back and forth.

You can get an audio interface and use ASIO drivers for fast monitoring. But the best way would be to use a separate hardware mixer and monitor from mixer itself.

But in your case you can also do this:
1) Enable audio bus A in vMIX.
2) Send your microphone input only to Bus A.
3) Add new Input -> Audio Input -> vMIX Audio Bus A
3.1) Add delay to this input in settings.
3.2) Send this newly added input to Master
4) In audio mixer press [S] on Bus A

This way you should monitor audio in realtime (BUS A in mixer) and have a delayed audio on stream and recordings(A delayed BUS A input that is sent to Master). Experimenting with audio buses and audio routing can get what you want.
