Hi,
Like the title says - new to this product, and really want to iron out questions we have - so we can roll out.
Media Playback: Motion jitter (v noticeable on panning scene)- thought it may have been display card/device issue, but media plays back perfectly outside of vMix. MP4 30fps
Camera jitter (again - v noticeable on panning)
Everything looks right - setting wise (we think) - output from display card 1920X1080 @ 60hz (to match display device).
Really looking forward to getting this out on a show - great product !
Thanks,
Pete

Output frame rate should be set to match as closely as possible to media and camera. So if they are both 29.97fps this is what should be set in the settings.

Thanks for the prompt response Martin,
This presents with a conundrum ...
My cameras are Sony PD-WF335 - which set to either 25P or 50i. At present - 50i gives less jitter. Media - could be anything, of course we can ask our clients (when constructing) to making them whatever suits our PB device. Typically though - this may not happen despite this. The workaround, for media, then - is to play off an external device ?
I'm guessing, that our current camera setup prohibits a 'live' show to screens also.

It all really depends on what the final recording or streaming frame rate will be. Converting between different frame rates is not going to be completely smooth, for example 5 frames need to be removed to convert from 30 to 25. This is regardless of external playback or playing a file directly in vMix.
One thing to note: The frame rate in Settings should always match the frame rate you have configured for External Output (Streaming) and Recording Setup. If you set the output frame rate to 60 and have a video at 30 and a recording at 25, you will have two conversions before it is recorded.

Great Martin.
Appreciate the advice.
I suppose - being where we are - we are prone to client media being in varying formats, but we have to cater for that (such is life). Tried playing file from laptop set to 1080@50i, with Screenmonkey - plays better (not perfect - but - better), so that's a workaround for that.
Any media that WE produce is no problem.
Just left with the camera jitter to improve upon.
I'm wondering if a BM HDMI-SDI convertor might solve this - then we can match frame rates through to display.
Thanks again !
Pete

Hi Pete,
Most converters out there will not change the frame rate. Any frame rate conversion regardless of device is going to cause some kind of jitter.
I would recommend matching the frame rate in Settings plus for recordings and streaming etc to the same as your cameras.

Hi Martin,
Yes - I agree.
I intend to match the whole thing to the cameras - so I would output 1080 50i from display card to go to HDSDI input on monitor/projector (via BM). At the moment - we're testing with a monitor limited to 60P.
Let you know either way.

If the display output is going to a projector or monitor, leaving it at 60hz is fine. I've seen good results with 60hz display settings, but 50i/25p set in vMix settings where the camera is also 50i/25p.

Don't get me wrong Martin.
It's not bad.
Could be better.
On broadcast and record - it's absolutely perfect.
99% there.
We're also seeing 4 frames from camera to display, in your opinion - should we see less ?? I know what the specs say.
Curiously - this delay seems to be at the capture card - when we open BM software - we measure the latency there. Can send you some photos (got lots of them !)

My camera is set to 50i output and vMix is set to Display/System: PAL50p, because with 25p/50i scenes with movement wasn't smooth (judder) on our TV-Screen (60Hz). But for recording and streaming we use 25p/50i. I thing these settings aren't perfect maybe someone has an advice for me to improve.

Hi Martin, We're just waiting to get our hands on a BM convertor.
In the meantime - to augment your help file for our techs. I did a quick diagram of what should match (in a live show environment). As - if I hadn't had that problem with 30Hz video that you helped me with - I wouldn't have grasped one or two things. BTW - Thanks for that !
Can I post it up here for your comments/yaes/naes ??
If so how ? or could I mail it to you.
Cheers !
Pete

Hi, Just a quick one to say 'Thanks for a great product' ! Posted up something else to do with the same problem. If anyone is having similar issues - READ THIS : http://www.vmix.com.au/k...rlaced-sources-supportedAlso - we checked with a Blackmagic mini convertor (HDMI-SDI) Results were that it (maybe) added 1 frame of latency - I'm tending more to 0.5 frames (but being cautious)- total 4.5 - 5 frames (v acceptable). Thanks again - Well done - Looking forward to ver 12 !! Pete
