Does anyone tried these cheap HDMI capture cards (<65$) HD72a from china?
This is a cheap solution if they work without problems.
Anyone?
(I could send a link from Ebay but i don't know if it's ok with the forum rules)
Also does anyone tried the 4-channel HDMI Capture Thanko card from japan?

I have a Timeleak PCIexpress card and a HD75A which both work well. The biggest issue I have had with them is some incompatibility with other capture card drivers.

What a coincidence a few days ago I was also looking at the thanko. Hope someone want's to take risk and try this card out. There is not much information on the internet about the thanko, but I did read somewhere that some people only could get one port working (not verified this is true!). So maybe you have to have some special pci power, but I don't no. hope someone here does know the answer.

Also Ask could you specify wich drivers didn't work properly?

There was a confict between some Avermedia Drivers and the Timeleak ones. Once I removed the set I wasn;t using all issues went away

Hi ASK

I'm interested in getting the HD72A.. I read on another forum someone had trouble with audio via the HDMI input (using another software) Have you had any similar issues with this card in VMIX?

I've got a 4-channel HDMI Capture Thanko card from japan ... but it's really only showing one input (not 4) in vMix as well as other software. I tried to install / uninstall the driver and the ShowBiz Software from ArcSoft (coming with it) but coudn't fix the problem.

Does anyone have further ideas??? Searching on the internet for an alternativ driver was without a result, too. :(

Hi all,

I got this from a seller on ebay:

[[ Note ]]

HDMVC4UC can not capture & record 4 diveces at same time, but connect 4 diveces.
Because basiclly 1 PC has 1 capture board bassically.

Condition: New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item
Brand: Thanko

It is a 4-port HDMI capture card that supports "1080i" and "60fps". I will make the connection in the "PCI-EXPRESS" to the personal computer. I also comes with (ArcSoft ShowBiz) software and capture editable high-quality easily video digital camera, video camera, such as PS3, XBox360. Therefore, it is possible to capture video smoothly in hardware processing.

This is what Thanko-Support told me today:

***
Thank you for your purchasing our HDMI video capture card.

This product has four HDMI ports, but basically it can capture video
from only one HDMI port at a time.
Even if it takes video signal from four ports, the total amount
information for 1080p full movie in four different HDMI port becomes
incredibly huge, not possible to capture or process the data.

We are discussing about your request to let the four ports activated.
When getting any updates, I will let you know.

I tried HD72a and is working fine with my 1080i PAL settings. But the problem is when i install a second one (same model), then none of them is working. It seems like a driver conflict cause both cards have the same name but using different bus and resources in the Device manager. Anyone have a solution for this?

It says on the Timeleak homepage that it can capture in MPEG2. But can it also capture in raw AVI?

In a static studio, if there is some way to switch, even though one one works, that would work. As in Cam1, Cam2, Cam3, etc. A Decklink Quad has 4 processors so it can do it/

The question is, can you select 1,2.3.4 in vMix? If so the 4 ports are not a waste. The user just has to know what is on each one before switching to it. Anyway to selct the ports in vMix?

Well along that line, http://www.amazon.com/Et...rds=4-port+hdmi+switcher why not use a $30 hardware switcher with ir remote before it gets into the PC? Looked and found on Amazon. And there is a another 4 port for $10 and a 3 port for $8!! Why did I not think of this before?

Why use up PC resources with 4 HD video streams? Just have one stream coming it and control it for $30 outside the PC.

So you can have 4 cameras, outputting HDMI live, select it via the IR remote (heck host can do that under the table if not producer). AND it has PIP apparently built in so you can have 2-3-4 cams live at same time for sertae guests and they all show up in vMix as just one source.

The alternative is to have Decklink quad for $995 and 4 HDMI to SDI converters to get the video from cam to card, lets say $1400 total. Or $8 to $30 for a standalone HDMI switcher box. What shows on vMix output is the same, and the PC does 1/4 the work. All for $8 to $30. And has 4.5 star rating with 400 reviews.

Does this makes sense to the rest of you? Will post separately as new post.

@ darp

You may be able to get away with it on a very 'low' end production but I suspect the "Switching" would not be seemless or glitch free.
You have no way to preview the shot, and lose out on a multitude of special effect features available to you in vMix.
It is certainly worth experimenting with as your investment is minimal, but in the end, I think you only get what you pay for.
If it works for you, great! You are ahead of the game.
If not, well, you just throw it all in the pile of other cheap solutions that didn't work and hope that that pile does not amount to more than if you had gone the "tried, tested and true" method from the start.
Just my thoughts.

We often use such switchers in specific cases. For example: at the beginning of an event the room may not be filled. We then use 1 camera that is hanging in the middle of the venue, and switch with the switcher to the camera that is in the end of the venue once it's filled up. This way we don't need to use 2 inputs, since we won't be using the camera's simultaneously anyway. There is always a black frame when you switch with such a device though, so it's not at all suitable for usage in a good production. Also, as said before: you can't preview the sources, unless you would use monitors with passtrough, but that would not exactly be a cheap solution ;)
