vMix in AWS - using a MIDI keyboard remotely via VNC etc?

Hi All!
First post.
Really appreciate how helpful everyone is on the forum.
I got vMix installed on an AWS instance the other day, been playing with it with a trial licence.
Been waiting a long time for technology to catch up to where production can be decentralised for a couple of reasons:
1. No massive up-front hardware costs. 2. Ability to allow others to run the production.
Got hooked on TTFN years ago, and learned an awful lot from Mark, Vance and Peter. Missed it when they stopped, but had a chance to talk to Mark the other week. Good chap!
---
We're going to start producing live shows for business owners, to showcase what they do. We'll be bringing on their clients and other experts as guests, and primarily looking to do this via vMix Call.
In addition to simplifying live production, I also want to enable PTT IFB for individual Call guests so that we can direct the show.
And I've long looked at MIDI controllers like the AKAI to be able to do this. Years ago, I found that there was a way of feeding signals from a local MIDI controller to a remote setup in a different country (that was my original usage scenario - so very similar, but not in the cloud.) I can't remember if it was to control a BlackMagic TV studio or vMix though.
Now that we have vMix up and running in AWS, does anyone have some perspective on using a local MIDI controller, or XKeys or similar to control an AWS based vMix setup?
We're testing all of this out on trial licences at the moment, including a trial of RealVNC.
It's great that we can test and rehearse for just a dollar or so an hour. We WERE looking at easylive.io - but it's too simplistic, it's actually much more expensive per hour, and they're not particularly receptive to feature requests that are standard in vMix - like a library of decent lower thirds - ANIMATED lower thirds - simple layout change animations like Multiview wipe - Thanks Doggy for pointing me in the right direction there.
I probably shouldn't try to ask too many different topic questions in this first post - there's a lot I want to get up to speed with quickly..... So I'll stick with the remote hardware controller question for this first one.
Does anyone have some experience using a MIDI type controller locally to control an AWS/remote vMix setup?
Thanks in advance!

If you are on Facebook, look to join the World Of Live Streaming group and re-ask your question there. However do a search before posting because the answer has been posted a number of times. :-)

Anyone else interested in knowing about this? yes i would be. I have a few installs of vmix on the clients local site and run shows from home. i used to just do the switching via TeamViewer but its too resource intensive and can do some funky things when a lot of GPU related tasks are being done. looking for a good way to remotely produce show with local hardware controller like xkeys

I'll post updates here. What are you using for the remote connection, NIBTour?

Initial suggestion from the group is to use VirtualHere. https://www.virtualhere.com/I guess it would need to be point-to-point, outside the remote desktop/VNC session. And would therefore need some open ports in the security rules.

Yes: I'm using an AWS EC2 instance, and I'm able to sue my XK-68 Joystick along with my AKAI ACPmini. I use: ► Parsec for Remote Desktop ► ZeroTier One for VPN ► VirutalHere for USB-to-IP
Works like a charm, and it's a great opportunity to pay some people fro some really useful tools.
The only thing I don't have working right now is... PowerPoint. HAHAHAHAhahahaha. (but seriously :( )
Best,
Chad

Thanks clafarge,
Does Parsec work better than RealVNC?
What's the problem with Powerpoint?
We're going to inject stuff like that via NDI with a second AWS instance.

We're going to inject stuff like that via NDI with a second AWS instance. RealVNC just didn't look as clear as Parsec. Also, I ended exploring RealVNC before I began with VirtualHere, so I don't know if it's "all good". RE: PowerPoint, there's no ready image including a PPTX viewer and I'm going to hate installing something new on a separate drive volume. I started this instance with a tutorial's suggested 30GB primary volume. :( more organization than anything. vMix doesn't include a PowerPoint Player along with its PowerPoint Input. You have to already have it to use it. (or, I'm broken) Chad

Could be way better than RealVNC. I’ll have a play. Thanks!
