Hi all,

Im using a laptop to send some graphics from ProPresenter to vMix via NDI. I want to be able to put my Graphics operator on talkback so want to send a microphone that is also plugged in to the Graphics computer to vMix at the same time. Is there an app that will let me just send audio? i tried the Senna app but there didn't seem to be any option to do this.

Cheers

Much easier to simply use an Intercom app on smartphones... Been discussed so many times in the forum already ! Use the search function with keywords 'intercom, talkback, ifb" to find all available solutions...

Using NDI for audio only is pretty much a non sense btw...

I don't think it is easier.

My producers (as well as presenters) are all remote and on Vmix calls. This allows them to see the show by

1. The main producer seeing my Multiview output on his vMix Call return vision and being able to talk to our presenters. As his audio is going into vMix, I have him set up on an audio bus that they listen to as well as being able to hear PGM sound all through the one headset. He has a Push to talk USB mic.

2. The GFX producer is also connected via a vMix Call and participates in the show in the same way, seeing the GFX output on his return feed before I put it to air. He has a push to talk USB Mic and can talk to me and the GFX operator only.

3. Using Audio busses, we can all communicate to each other in different ways . I as the director, have different push to talk buttons set up on my Streamdeck so I can chat to guests, Presenters, the other producers separately or all together if needed.

The GFX operator is already connected to vMix via NDI so it makes sense to send his mic via the same NDI pipe.

In this scenario, using an intercom app would add unnecessary complication, clunkyness and require more devices as well as some people to wear two sets of headphones. Sillyness.

NDI for audio makes just as much sense as it does for video really.

So, no one has come up with an app that allows Audio only to be sent as NDI?

These 2 sentences next to each other should ring a bell ! ;)

Anyway if you had described the whole workflow at once, I might not have replied the same thing...

If you want to add a mic to your PP NDI feed, check with PP, it's not a vMix issue. You might also want to check with ZenVideo apps for NDI which might allow you to select an audio source and a video source...
Btw such a solution is one way only from GFX to TD, not what I consider a sufficient talkback solution

'These two sentences together"? Wow, if everyone had that mentality progress would never occur!Just because you may not know of an app that can do it, or just because there mayb not be an app that can currently do it, does not mean it's a useless feature.Progress relies on new ideas, ones that may not have been though of before.

I know it's not a vMix issue, i was asking if anyone knew of an NDI Audio App in the NDI forum.

To be fair, I didn't describe the complete workflow because it didn't matter to my question.

Yes, the solution is one way, I already have a solution in place for the GFX operator to hear the producers. That's already covered.

Just want to add the GFX op's Mic to vMix via NDI if possible.

Maybe create one using the NDI SDK ?

Yep, that's an option....with time.

My show goes live in 24hrs so doubt I'll make it in time.

Not NDI, but VB-Audio's VoiceMeeter series allows uncompressed audio to be streamed over IP between two or more instances of the software. Extremely low latency. They call this VBAN.

They also have Windows, Android and iOS VBAN receiver apps.

Their Virtual Audio Cables are then used to pipe received audio into vMix.

All donationware. https://www.vb-audio.com/

Oh ye of little faith...... :)

Someone (Peter Löfås) does appear to have already done this and created an "NDI Audio Embedder" app, and what's more the Lite version is free.

See ndi.lofas.se

Great, thanks for this. Will check it out.

Seems Iā€™m not the only crazy one wanting to send audio via NDI šŸ˜œ

On Windows, I'm using Scan Converter to send NDI to vMix. In my application, I only need the audio inputted to vMix, so I'm just ignoring the video when I add the NDI source. It would be nice if Scan Converter had a Video Source option where you could select "none" (similar to the Audio Source option which has a "none" option). Just wishing.

Run vMix Desktop Capture. Open the Settings menu. Tick "Audio Only". Done.

I just did something similar (but different enough that it may not work for you). We have two people that translate our service into Webcaptioner for speech to text, and wanted to send the audio to them. I used NDI Tools (from https://ndi.tv/tools) using Studio Monitor, and set it to only receive the audio channel.

I notice that the created bus' show up in the options. I'm sure you could set one of them to be a mic input and use it for talkback, and pull in just that audio.
