Hi everyone, hoping you can help me.

I'm trying to get certain audio from vMix calls, music, etc all recorded to an mp4 with separate audio channels, similar to how you can assign them in OBS/StreamlabsOBS.
This is for an edit, where we have greater control over the audio mix, rather than it all baked into the Master.

I'm not using any extra hardware externally besides a Focusrite Scarlett for my own microphone, all audio sources are from the same PC using vMix.

I've looked at somewhat similar posts on the forums, but none of them indicate where you can access the 8 channel matrix. Do you need hardware for it to be enabled?
All I'm seeing is two columns in the channel matrix.

I've enabled all the extra audio buses (A through to G) to see if they enable more channels to route audio, but they don't seem to, even after using the matrix to put specific audio inputs onto specific buses.

I've tried changing the Audio settings to vMix MAB 6ch, MABCDEFG 8ch, and ensuring recording settings also include multi-channel recording but nothing seems to be working properly.

Some guidance on how this works would be appreciated, I'm sure I'm missing something glaringly obvious, many thanks!

1) "Only the AVI video format and the WAV File Record options supports more than 2 channels, if a 4 or 6 channel option is selected here for other formats then only the first 2 channels will be included."

https://www.vmix.com/hel...OutputAudioChannels.html

2) You have to make the selections for busses/channels in the Audio Mixer, not in the Channel Matrix. (Btw, the columns in the Channel Matrix represent the channels of the Audio source. So if you wanted to route channels of the source to busses, this would be the place to do it.)

When adding audio from a Focusrite, you will need to add channel as a separate input into vMix
and then route these as required. To do this select the Focusrite ASIO option in Add Input -> Audio Input and select
the audio channels to use for each input.

Thanks for the responses!

Looks like I've got my assumptions about the Channel Matrix wrong, that it's the input that defines how many channels it shows.

So, with the limitation not being able to export to .mp4 with more than 2 channels - is it possible to record as an .mp4, but enable .wav file recording with multi-channel? Will that work?

Yes, if you enable the WAV File Record setting alongside an MP4 video Recording Setup, and have MABCDEFG selected, then you will record all the audio busses into the Wav file. Seems to work OK here.

Thanks for everyones responses!

Just summarising how I got it working if anyone else stumbles across this:

The simple solution of enabling the WAV recording with an MP4 (I'm using FFMPEG for the encoding), and ensuring audio is set to MAB (any more than that and it comes up with a not supported with codec error) - that seems to work for me!

Thanks again
