Hello, and thank you fro taking the time to answer my question. I will be using vMix HD Live Production, Streaming & Mixing Software that I purchased from B&H. I have recently learned that even though it has multiple inputs, the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini HDMI Live Stream Switcher only appears as one input source in the vMix software. You can switch the cameras on the switcher, but it is still just one source. What I want to do is attach a second capture device to another thunderbolt port on the computer and bring in a second source so that I can use the picture and picture and or multi screen functions of the software. Basically the setup would include a camera source and a laptop that contains the PowerPoints that they speakers will be using during there presentations. I need to switch the camera input from podium camera to audience camera when a question is being asked, which is where the ATEM switcher comes into play, but the powerpoint will always be displayed, so while the speaker is presenting, I have one box that is getting the input from the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini HDMI Live Stream Switcher, while another box is getting the slides from the powerpoint laptop, and from there I create a background layer and logo lower thirds to complete the design, I just nee to know if this sort of setup will work for what I wish to accomplish. I also need to know if I can record the final output directly to an external hard drive so that I don't take up space on my computer hd, and so that I can hand off the finished videos to the client at the end of the day. Thank you so very much for taking the time to help me out with this. I really appreciate it. Have a great day.

Hi,

No problem bringing in multiple capture devices as long as you have the necessary ports available. Recording to an external device can be done either via:
  • Recording to an external HDD from Vmix
  • Using another I/O card and the external output functionality within vmix (this is the optimal workflow)
  • Using the Fullscreen output from vmix (this is not ideal though as full screen is geared towards monitoring rather then critical work)
thanks 1 user thanked TobinT for this useful post.
