Hi All.
First of hope you all had a peacefull xmas.
I would like to have some feedback on the audio usage in vMix.
Having several sources (camera, video and seperate mic)I was wondering how can one check the sounds (example check the mic quality, or search for a specific sound part in a clip) without these sounds going to the master?
Have to admit I haven't worked with audio much but would like to avoid external hardware.
Generally any tips on sounddevices (windows7)and others would be very welcome.
Working on a laptop:
headphone and Mic jack (seperate)
Line in Jack
s/p DIF-out Jack
Hdmi-in
Hdmi-out
DVI-i output

Personally, I would recommend some external hardware, at least a decent sound card with some XLR inputs for quality mic's...
It doesn't have to be big or expensive, but you'll certainly gain a lot both in terms of quality and versatility.
Some cards already have some built-in mixing facilities and a "solo" feature to allow you to check any input, look at some models from Focusrite or MOTU for example.

Hello
The better way is to use a Mixer with USB output, yes external hardware. There is out there better quality mixer that you can imagine and these keep the quality of your audio feed. You will then be able to monitor all your audio feed to send it to your laptop. In my opinion, when you use a Laptop with Vmix and have more audio source, don't use the Lin in or mic in of your internal card, but an external peripheral like an audio mixer with usb output, will give you a better sound quality.

Agree with Charssay ! We use the behringer X1222USB Mixer and for sure, you'll need something like that. You can find some usb mixer for 100$ on amazon or other similar websites.

If I understand correctly one would also have the video/camera audio feeds go to the mixer first?

Yes, and you could even use the audio of a virtual input (AVI file for example) if you use a soundcard instead of an USB mixer - that's why I suggested this solution.
It's a little more intricated but there is also another benefit if you use a USB powered soundcard: no PSU needed = less wires.
But yes, an USB mixer with real knobs might be easier to use...

Hi,
can anyone guide me how to output the embedded audio?
the audio meter in vMix was kicking however i cant hear any sound from speaker.
Already try to change setting one by one related audio setting in vMix but i wont happen. Do i miss something?
I'm using blackmagic decklink Quad.
