Hi, I'm not able to get the quality I think I should have on my live streams. When I record the video to disk in VMix, it's great. Crisp lines on text and graphics, no interlacing, pixelation or jaggies on diagonal lines, good color depth, etc. When I live stream to FB or YT, I get what basically looks like very low bitrate. I know FB is limited to 720P and my settings are just from the drop down, H264 720p 3.5Mbs. I have Youtube set to 1080P at 10Mbs up from the default 6Mbs. Everything else is pretty much default. I have Win10 x64 1909, VMix 23.0.0.46, Core i5-8600, 16GB mem, 1060GTX w/ 3GB mem. Everything is up to date as of today. Task manager indicates all is well on the performance front. See attached screen grabs to compare record to disk vs streaming versions for quality.

if you are using hardware encoding from your 1060 3GB, that is about what it can do for quality. The only way to get better quality from graphics Card encoding is get a 2080+ RTX based card, or a Quatro.

otherwise build a super beefy machine and use x264 encoding via the CPU. (medium to Slower) setting

Just my two cents. I have the GTX 1060 3GB too, its output for even slightly fast moving content is garbage.

If you are ingesting over USB, this can also cause this at least from my experience. i just swapped from USB ingest to internal capture via HDMI and my signal in is so much cleaner.

All screenshots above are taken from the same machine. The video card is the same 1060 in the crisp screenshots. It's just what gets sent online that's bad. I'm not sure why one destination is good quality (save to disk) and the other (stream) is not, using the same graphics card.

Not sure this is relevant but ingesting via Intensity Pro 4K. Upstream from that is a Roland matrix switcher with NDI cams and a second presentation computer.

Quality from a 1060 should be perfectly fine, please drop us an email so we can check the vMix settings as it looks like something is amiss.

I would be curious what it is because it looks like a scaling issue and although saving to disk is much different due to the size of the bit rate it shouldn't be that bad with hardware encoding especially at 720 3.5megs. As for the 1060 you could get a 1660ti which has the same new nvenc chip as the rtx 2080ti if you want the new performmance and quality boost without going to a beafier machine and using x264fast. but your issue seems like maybe your output is set to a different resolution or something.

@NiBTour, that's good info on the 1660Ti, thanks. I'm not opposed to getting better hardware, I just want to make sure I'm doing so for a purpose and specifically why it helps me. If I can get this resolved as is, that would be ideal and I'm hopeful.

@admin, Support request submitted and Support Report sent in.

I'll post back here any resolution so the thread has a solution posted.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased vmix hd and am looking to learn. I have searched the forum but have not found the solution to my question. In the streaming window, what is the "use hardware encoder"? What changes if the use or not? Thank you

So for me it was something to do with the External Output. It's not a feature we use currently and I guess it being on was just ignored. I can't say what technically was wrong, but toggling it off immediately corrected the issue. Live Stream is now very clear. as an aside, even though I have read several places that FB Live is limited to 720P, I set mine to 1080P as a test and confirmed the video on FB is 1080P. So I'm leaving it at that. Thanks Martin! Here's his email to me if it helps others.

As I recall, it's just selecting the External label at the bottom of the main interface. It's on by default and will display as red in color. Select to turn it off and again to re-enable it. When I did that, the pixelation cleared up. It's been a couple years, so that's what I can remember.

I'm running into this same problem but I'm not using an external output, only streaming. I've tried higher bitrates in the stream settings. I've tried hardware encoding and not hardware encoding. Changing the Preset to Slow helps but even Slowest isn't as good as what's in Vmix and local record. Anything else to try?
