Hi, I am new to vMix. I just downloaded vMix 11 today and am exploring it.

I was trying to use the Video Delay feature. I noticed that the video delay does not capture audio.
Is this the normal behavior of the video delay. Does it only capture the video, without the audio. Or is there something that I am doing wrong ?

What I did is as follows:

I added an MP4 video (with audio) as an input and set it to play as the main output.
Then I selected Add Input -> Video Delay -> [Default Settings (20s)] -> OK
Delay appears as an input, with a red REC button.
After a while (more than 20s), I clicked on SAVE.
In a few seconds, a delay output, with the date and time appeared.
I clicked on the Quick Play of this. The recorded video starts playing.

But there is no audio. The audio level meter beside the delay input does not show any audio.

Please clarify whether the video delay records audio too or is it just the video?

The delay is used as a replay of your video. As in live sports when you have a replay of a play you want the commentary to speek of what happen on the replay and not the audio that was spoken on the original live feed. If you were to slow down the replay you would not want the original audio to play with it.

I think this "Video Delay" title is confusing; Video Replay would be more appropriate. I initially thought it was to delay video in the same way as you delay audio.

Thanks Greg, I get it. You wouldn't want previous commentary to be there in the replay. But, in some cases, you may want the audio of the action happening on screen. For instance, in a sport like cricket, you may want to hear the audio of what went on in the field during a replay. So, if there is an option to include a particular audio channel, say the audio from a camera, and not the commentary audio, along with the video replay it would have been great.

I use the video delay as a way of pulling highights from the sport so I can quickly make highlight clips of great plays after. Having an option to record Audio would be fantastic... so +1 for that...

I agree. It should be renamed to Video Replay.

I have been waiting for real Video Delay for a while (add delay to too fast sources).

So it would be possible to sync all video sources together with the slow ones (HDV etc).

Kind regards,

Hi Martin and everyone,

My first post on this forum - but I have had a blast dropping my jaw at what this product can do while evaluating the 60 day trial...

It would actually be really nice to have the audio feed from a live capture source be replayable as well as the video - for other sports like cricket as previously mentioned and also for acting as a delay to catch profanity before it goes on air, as we are an FCC licensed station in the U.S. and have to be compliant to the regulations.

The audio could just be available only when playing back at 100% speed to facilitate programming, since it would not need to have audio for the sports slow-motion replay and stuff...

Thanks for your attention to this :-)
thanks 1 user thanked lbgaus for this useful post.
