Hi guys..I am installing some HD cameras in an environment that was using SD cameras over fiber....we replaced all the transmitters and receivers with HD versions, but we are getting NO signals....we tested the equipment over short distances of about 10 feet, to check that vMix was seeing the cameras, and all worked great, but now, when connecting to the already installed fiber, nothing seems to work.....I can not remember the brands of transmitters and receivers we used , but none worked over that long distances.....yet, the SD equipment is working....My question, do we have to replace the fiber cables, or is there something else we need to do....?

Hi,
are you using the rorrect SFP's/fibers. SM vs MM
If you mix SM and MM it can work on short distances

I do not understand...what is the difference between single mode and multimode....by the way, the fibre is multi-mode.....and all we did was to replace the SD transmitters and receivers....

A singlemode fiber is much thinner than a multimode fiber (9micrometers vs. 50 micrometers) and the fiber ends can be different. Oblique or straight. Mostly fiber optic cables are 8 degrees ground (APC), if a ground fiber is plugged together with an unground fiber, a part of the fiber end will break somewhere. Are singlemode and multimode fiber optic cables compatible with each other? The question of whether singlemode and multimode fiber optic cables are compatible with each other and whether they can be connected or mixed with each other is raised again and again. The question is easy to answer: Singlemode and multimode cables are not compatible with each other. They cannot be connected to each other simply because of their different core diameters. You'll need to check with your manufacturer, and the SFP types, Typically a SM SFP will work over short runs of MM fiber, but a MM SFP will almost not work at all over SM fiber, In addition fiber has generations that define the switch speed, OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4, the fiber generation determins the length of the run as it relates to bandwidth. https://www.fibercables....om1-om2-om3-and-om4-mean
