Hello everybody,

I'm using Vmix for a while now and I'm looking for a new laptop because mine doen't like more than 3 HD input (aja U tap), streaming and recording.

I would like to use at least 4 AJA U TAP with 1080p 25 resolution, ISO recording all this input or use instant replay for sport event, also use NDI in and out and stream to multiple destination. I also want to use the HDMI out and mini display port out as monitor and external vidéo out.

Maybe I might try 4K input to use the possibility to crop for several frames from the same camera.

I also use my laptop as editing machine on premier and also after effect.

I found the spec form this Lenovo laptop are good, what do you think ?

Taille : 15"
Définition : 1920 * 1080 (Full HD)
Aspect : Mat/antireflet
Technologie : IPS
Modèle : Core i7-9750H
Modèle : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
Installée : 32 Go
Type de stockage : HDD + SSD
Espace total : 1,5 To
Poids : 2,2 Kg

Is this a good choice ?

Thank you,
Clem

Those specs seem pretty nice. The issue you have with the AJA UTAP may not be exactly related. It may be about managing your USB busses.

UTAP does not have an onboard compression engine. It sends an uncompressed YUV stream across the USB 3.0 link.

A single 1080p25 stream is going to be around 1.5 Gbps. While USB 3.0 is rated for 5 Gbps, it's really only stable up to around 4 Gbps. You can probably use 2 UTAPs per USB 3 controller bus.

You need to be sure that you have multiple USB 3 ports, on different controller busses, to be able to connect multiple UTAPs.

Or make use of a faster port, like a TB3 port. A TB3 PCIe enclosure and 1 or 2 multi-port capture cards are a more common solution to what you seek to achieve.

Incidentally, I had a Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen1 for a few week over the summer. Nice machine. Similar to the specs you cite.

The fast desktop CPUs in these latest laptops often throttle back under load due to thermal issues. This has been reported by Lenovo X and P Series and Dell XPS users. Check Reddit for real user insights.

Thank you for answering !

I might Finally buy the Lenovo Thinkpad P52 15" Xeon E 2,6 GHz
It has NVIDIA Quadro P2000, Xeon E-2176M and 2 thunderbolt 3 and 3 USB 3
What do you think ?
