When I am streaming an event with a lot of people, I have problems with internet slowdowns and dropouts.

I just discovered speedify which runs on Windows.

I tried it with 3 USB dongles and it basically eliminates packet loss and slowdowns.

Later down the track i'll experiment with using a WIFI dongle.

There is a free trial, definitely worth a look.

What brand/model of USB dongles were you using? How were they connected to the internet?

They are in storage, but from memory a;

Sierra 320u, a Vodafone K5150

Actually the 3rd one was a WIFI version.

We have 3 different 4G Networks in Australia (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone), so spread over the 3 networks equals perfect streaming.

speedify.com creates an intelligent bonded VPN over all connections and if a packet is lost somewhere, it will re-send the packet via another dongle so it eliminates packet drops before TCP/IP even notices.

TECHNICAL: The speedify software creates a virtual network adaptor (it's bonding engine) and it modifies the route table so all internet traffic passes via speedify.

I have access to Speedify for a year. Remember it uses some CPU, so it shouldn't be used on the same PC with vMix.
I'm thinking on a small battery powered PC that could bond up to four cellular connections and share it with local network.

CPU doesn't seem to be an issue for me, I just bought a brand new Skylake i7-6700K.

I just thought of connecting my iPhone to the computer via USB to give Speedify an extra path.

I'll try setting my iPhone to 3G which isn't used much anymore because everyone is on 4G. I seem to have a consistent 4mbit upload speed on 3G.

This will be great for live streams at very busy events.

How do you set your iPhone for 3G only? All I can do is turn off LTE, but it still shows as a 4G signal.

I've got the latest IOS.

I go to Settings-->Mobile-->Voice & Data

I've got 3 options;

4G
3G
2G

And I can select all of them.

But this is with Vodafone in Australia. Different carriers may restrict this option.

Hi!
I'm writing from Argentina. Here the 4G LTE network isn't working as in other countries.
So i tried Speedify, but the results weren't the expected. With a WIFI connection and a 4G connection Speedefy didn't show increases on upload bandwidth.

Do you know if the distance to the nearest Speedify server can be the reason? All the servers are sited on EEUU and Europe, so here in south america... we are lost :'(
Or... do you know another service for internet bonding?
Thanks

Regards... and sorry for my english!

When using Speedify, if after bonding the connections you test the speed using speedtest.net you will often see a reduction in the reported speeds. This is not the case however. I have used it for some time and not only are the upload speeds better, but the stream is more stable. There are now a number of other software solutions for bonding including one from Terradek, but they tend to be more expensive. Also there are hardware solutions such as the Terradek Bond and from Mushroom that you can try. Again, these are very expensive.

Thank you for this, I was thinking about building something like this myself, but for 50 bucks a year I'm not going to touch my keyboard at all.
I'm thinking about getting a dedicated mini system for it though, with two LTE cards with external antenna's, wifi and two wired network connections. Every client would want to pay like 75 bucks for backup internet on a live streaming event.

Bonding wireless links is not new. Here in the US TV stations have been using this for some years. There are commercial products that do it, but people started with a DIY approach.

I'd be inclined to do it separate from the vMix host PC. There are quite a few network routers that accommodate wireless WAN, multiple WAN, etc. That way it can be one network connection to the vMix system, for sake of simplicity there.

mjgraves, thanks for a your answer. What system do you use?
I know this is not new, but i'm looking a inexpensive solution. I know about LiveU solutions, but they are really expensive.
I bought a year license of Speedify, but the result finally wasn't the expected.
You can see:

720p 1500kbps

I've used:
-one wifi connection of stadium
-one wireless (point to point link)
-three 4G LTE connections from 2 different carriers (1 Personal, 2 Claro)

Do you know another solutions that works better?
Thanks!

what was the upload speed ? what server you used? what was the "master" connection( if you disconed speedify)? i think that the problem was or that the master was the wifi and the upload was changing very fast or you computer can encode without drop frames.

My solution for bonding for stream for youtube or onether RTSP:
1) two or more independent Internet service providers (modem with LAN or WLAN)
2) Mikrotik to do bonding with the set PCC

It works stably, quickly and without problems. If one of the ISP fails, the other takes over all traffic. Simple and reliable

Bartek, from what I know this is not bonding, it's load balancing.

The idea for bonding is to send one stream with two or more connections. It means you can send (for example) 2mbps stream with three 0,8 mbps upload speed. In theory.

Your solution provides backup: when one connection fails the other takes its task. But actually there is no BONDing. It requiers bonding server that stucks all connections together. And this is what speedify and other services are.

We're using speedify for some time now, and are very happy. We use some huawei 4g modems with external antennas as a backup, and even used it with a fixed line + satelite + 4g.

for the money you can't go wrong

Well, I've heard about a product name Natiply Internet Bonding System, they claimed that it can bond up to 20 connection in any combination (2G, 3G, 4G/ LTE, Satellite, WiMax, Broadband etc.). They have portable and Software/ ISO version as well. Currently, they are providing free trial. For vMIX streaming, you could try if it works properly.

As highlighted earlier, "bonding" and "load balancing" are two different techs. They are usually confused as both are related to aggregation. However for uplink bonding you need a server side component (the terminating end of the bonding tunnel). Without that component, bonding in the uplink direction is technically not possible. Vendors like mushroom provide that server as a service. "Bonding" and "bonding for video" are also related but two different technologies. Bonding for video usually has some forward error correction built into the bonding to avoid retransmissions of video packets. We use mushroom's rtmp bonder for our streaming events as we wanted to use the encoders that we already have and are accustomed to.
