Hi All - I work in IT division for an insurance company. We have a large library of surveillance videos in .wmv format that employees can stream on demand. It is all built on top of Windows Media Services, running on a Windows 2008 server. Microsoft has deprecated their media services platform, and I am seeking a replacement.
vMix seems like it might work, and probably offers a million things above and beyond our requirements. I just want a simple streaming media server that I can install in our data center, on a 2016 virtual Windows server. We currently embed a windows media player plug-in in a browser window to enable the streaming, using a URL like mms://mediaprod/multimedia/00/00.wmv Would need similar functionality at the client desktop.
Do you think vMix would be a decent alternative, or do you have any other product recommendations?
Thanks in advance for your advice. Tim

Vmix will not work for your needs, it is not made to be used as a server. Originally Posted by: timmed Hi All - I work in IT division for an insurance company. You should use the middle of the three buttons towards the top of the window,

I see this option at the top of this opened forum discussion topic. I do not see it anywhere on the main "vMix Forums tab.

No, those sections are set up by the administrator. You need to create a new topic within one of those sections. Difficult to choose sometimes, but go for General Discussion if not obviously one of the others.

You might be able to do this with Plex media server setup with a folder view depending on how your files are organised.
It should transcode the wmv files on the fly to mp4 t be accessible on any browser.
