"overlay out" has no transition option? - or am I missing something?

I am using overlays on key commands to control a slide show over a background, and if I want an overlay to appear, it fades in (I've set the fade to 500ms on the overlay window) but there is no option to transition out from the overlay. It's just an instant-off switch - is there some way to make it have a fade, or a transition even?
