Hi everyone,
We're a Brazilian church in Canada and we've been using the vMix Free Edition for the past 3 months and we loved it! We've never had any issue! (vMix rocks!)
So, we just bought the vMix SD Edition to switch our two SD cameras but we're planning to move to HD pretty soon.
Here is the configuration: Mobo: Asus P8Z68-M Pro (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68M_PRO) CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 Cores) Video: AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series Ram: 16GB Disk1: 1 TB 7200rpm Disk2: 250 GB SSD
We need a capture card with 2 SDI inputs like the Blackmagic Decklink Duo but the blackmagic support team told me that the card it's not compatible with the motherboard.
"Thank you for contacting us. The Asus P8Z68-M Pro motherboards that you list appear to me micro ATX sized. Usually Micro ATX mobo's do not provide the necessary voltage to power the PCIe cards. We have not tested directly w/ those mobo's but my guess would be that they are not compatible."
Now I'm wondering if the compatibility issue is between the capture card and the motherboard or just a matter of replacing the power supply unit?
Does anybody had any experience with that motherboard and the decklink duo?
I apologize for my bad english!

Dear Alexandre
As a professional in IT Hadrware, I see this answer from BM Team too easy and with no sens. If a compatiblity issue must appear, it must link with the component of the Mobo, to better says the Chipset who will manage the data, Ask them if the compatiblity is link to the Intel® Z68 Chipset or not ! Second, your are wright about the Power Supply. In All mobo, when you use add card with complex unit (VGA CARD, HD Capture card), your PSU must be able to give the necessary power and with stability. In the case of M-ATX card, a good example is, when you add a a new vga card and your PSu have not enough power, your vga add card will be never detected and the bios will by pass it this because the PSU do not give enough power.
The advice I will then give you, whatever will be your choice, when you will build your set, do not use a chip PSU and the PSU must have a minima of 600 watt.
Another question, what card are you using actualy for the SD ?
Rgds

Hi Charssay!
I think this is a very interesting topic. I've found quite a few non-helpful answers from BM in other forums.
I'm currently using two different PCIe firewire cards and the only "issue" I have is a small delay which is normal when using firewire cables.
1. StarTech 1394 FireWire 3 Port PCI-E Adapter Card 2. STL 2 Port 1394b & 1 Port 1394a PCI-E Adapter Card
I've asked them what if I upgrade the power supply to a more powerful unit and here is the answer:
"Unfortunately w/ the Micro ATX mother board there really isn't much we can offer. Upgrading the power supply will not fix that issue.
All the Best, Eric Pestana Support Representative Blackmagic Design Inc."
I think I'll move to another brand like Matrox or ViewCast and ask them the same question to see what they say about it. Our budget is limited and those brands are even more expensive.
My last option will be upgrading the motherboard which is still on warranty. (6 months old)
Cheers, Alexandre

I'm not sure why they are suggesting there is a voltage issue with micro ATX as I have built numerous systems with Micro ATX using the blackmagic DeckLink Quad card with four inputs.
My guess is they won't provide support if it doesn't work, but I see no technical reason why it wouldn't work.

That's good to know Martin! Thanks.
I've found a post from you where you did some tests running the Asus P8Z77-M Pro(PCIe 3.0) with DeckLink Quad capture card.
I'm running the Asus P8Z68-M Pro and this one has PCIe 2.0 only. I think they do not support the combination of microATX with PCIe 2.0. That make sense?
I'm just trying to find a logic behind this.
Thanks again!
Alexandre

Hello Alexandre If I was you, I will try it, DeckLink are good card and can be more cheap than other in some case. If your mobo don't give a good shot, you can change iit as well remaining in your budget, even if I don't know what can you afford Rgds

Hello Alexandre just in case, and an FYI, Matrox released drivers for vMix support today for the entire MXO2 family and the Mojito MAX card. You can get them here for vMix v11; http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/downloads/Matrox driver version 7.5.1 is the correct drivers Regards W@

Hi guys, I'm having a hard time setting up the Decklink Duo capture card. I've tried many different configurations and nothing, no image, all black! I'm using the BM Desktop Video 9.8 for Windows. Here is the diagram: - 2 HD cameras Panasonic HC-V720(1080/60p/60i/iFrame) ( link here) - 1 BM HDMI to SDI battery convervter ( link here) - 1 BM Decklink Duo - 2 BNC to BNC 75-ohm Coax RG-6/U 100 Ft ( link here) I've tried many combinations without success. All the settings in vMix matches the settings in the Blackmagic Control Panel. I'm using the vMix SD Edition and in the BM control panel I'm using "1080i HD to SD Letterbox 16:9". I read all the related posts here. I might be doing something wrong. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks! Alexandre

Hi,
If you have set the input to be downscaled to "1080i HD to SD Letterbox 16:9" then the resolution to select in vMix will likely be 720x480 and the system (frame rate) NTSC 59.94i/29.97p

As a trouble shooting note. With vMix off can you see video signal in BM Media Express program? FYI make sure the preferences in Media Express are set to NTSC. If you see video there the Martins settings should work.

Hi Martin and Egriswold, Probably my motherboard is not compatible with the Decklink Duo as BlackMagic said. I tried everything. The camera HDMI output is set to 1080i, I'm also following Martin's recommendation as well. All I've got is a black screen! - Media Express - vMix Settings Alexandre

Could you take a screenshot of the blackmagic control panel?

Hi Martin, After a lot of troubleshooting I've solved the issue. Long story short. So, we are using the MPEG streamclip to convert some videos and we had to uninstall the QuickTime and install the QuickTime Alternative 1.81 in order to convert some .ts (Transport Stream) videos. After read the notes at Blackmagic support page we decided to remove the Quicktime Alternative and download and install the QuickTime from Apple. " QuickTime Apple QuickTime needs to be installed for some applications to function with a Blackmagic capture card, e.g. Adobe After Effects. You can download the latest version of Apple QuickTime for Windows: QuickTime Download" After install the QuickTime everything works like a charm! I'd like to say thank you very much for your help and all the other guys that spent their time to help me on this. (Charssay, Egriswold) Kindly, Alexandre
