Hi folks

I've had vMix for a while and just installed a Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K board to get my hdmi cameras into the production.

However try as I might, I can't get a signal from vMix via the output of the board to my second monitor.

I've gone through all the settings in Performance and External Output and changed everything reducing output size and frame rates etc. No output

I've clicked on the External tab at the bottom of the screen. No output

I've downloaded and installed the latest 11.1 drivers. No output

When adding the camera it appears nicely in the Input section and oddly this is the only time I see an image on the output from the board. BUT I only see the pass through image from the camera so I know the monitor is working fine. I'm still not seeing any output from vMix.

I've been in Control Panel which basically takes me to the Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup page and I can't find anywhere how to switch off 'pass through' so the video out from the board is from vMix.

It's driving me nuts and I'm sure someone here will have a very simple answer.

Could you share it with me please?

Many thanks

Thanks ... but ... what would be the best 'search' terms to find a similar question?

Nothing seems to jump out at me.

Are you trying to use it as a camera input AND and a vMix output device? You can only do one or the other at any one time.

Oh thanks, that's something I didn't know. Odd that I've never seen that mentioned anywhere on the BM forum!

Is that a Blackmagic limitation or something within the PC?

So presumably that means I need to upgrade my graphics board to something more juicy?

Most Blackmagic capture cards, Decklink & Intensity, are "half-duplex", meaning that they can only work in a single mode, input or output, but not both simultaneously. The Decklink Duo 2 & Quad 2 SDI cards are exceptions in that each BNC connection is a separate channel which can be either an input or an output, whereas a typical Decklink (like the SDI 4K card which features three BNC connections) is single channel, either an input or an output. The "Recorder" & "Monitor" cards are single function, input-only and output-only respectively.

Well I've tried this again this morning and removed any input from the Intensity Pro with the same results.

I checked the output in the BM windows. I clicked show playback video, not the live video. I ran video okay from the BM Media Express to the same monitor.

I'll just have to use the second hmdi output from the graphics board I guess until someone can share a solution.

I'm sure it is something simple?

Perhaps you can share a screen grab of your external output settings in vMix?

I released after posting the above it was after I changed back to running the output off a second monitor connection.

I've just done it again changed the Device to Intensity 4K and the Port to HDMI and once again nothing on the second monitor.

Then I flipped over to Blackmagic Media Express and got an immediate video signal.

Odd eh?

Take a look at the vMix External Output documentation here: vMix Documentation on External Output

Your settings are not correct for what you are attempting to do. You must check the External Renderer box and set the Device to your BMD card, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. As I posted above your comment I took the screen shot after I had changed the Device Setting from Intensity.

I think there's something else I should be looking at within the PC as I can't get the NDI Out to work either. I've followed all of Tims instructions, yet although the NDI signal appears on the network, there's now video within?

Very odd. Where else should I look to correct this I wonder?

Have you checked the "External Renderer" box as well?

Thank you and yes I've finally sorted it.

It was the monitor I was sending the hdmi only appears happy with 1080 50p. Every time I sent 25p or 25i it wouldn't display.

So simple it hurts :(

Thanks eveyone
