I found a short list of PTZ cameras that are supported by vMix. I assume this is just the ones that have been tested and verified to work. What camera specifications must be met so that a network camera will work with vMix? I have looked at Axis, Everview, Vivotek cameras as well as others, but none of these are listed as supported.

vMix will see any IP camera that delivers h264 via an RTMP stream.

In general, if you can see the stream in VLC, you'll be able to see it in vMix.

It's often handy to work out the exact URI for the stream using a freestanding instance of VLC.

PTZ control is entirely another matter. I have no idea about vMix control of IP-connected PTZ.
