A pause recording feature would allow me to pause everything including the Production Clock so I can resume recording at a later time. Such breaks would allow me to prepare more content or just take a coffee break.

To solve this Pause/Resume Recording issue I now use vMix to produce my program content but record it using Zoom.us which has a Pause/Resume button. I overlay the Zoom output screen on top of the vMix output screen. The Zoom output screen can be locked in place so it stays on top of vMix even though I'm clicking on other vMix inputs during the production.
I use a Stream Deck to control the short cuts for both vMix and Zoom. This solution works so well for pre-recorded content I use only 1 monitor. For live streaming I use a second monitor for Zoom and the Chat room.

No one from vMix has responded to this request for a feature to pause a recording session along with the production clock. I purchase vMix upgrades, hoping the 'pause recording' feature will soon be added. Meanwhile I continue to use VidBlaster because it does have a 'pause recording' feature.

Does anyone know how to reach vMix in a more direct way other than this forum? It seems they don't even know this request exists.

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the vMix Forum. You have found the right sub-forum for requests for new and improved features. Your request for a Recording Pause has been made several times before, the first time about six years ago.

The protocol here is for someone to make a feature request and then other forum members that agree with that request will reply in the forum with a +1. It is most helpful not to make duplicate requests and here's why. The vMix R&D team monitors the Feature Request (FR) forum diligently and tabulates the results on a large white board in the vMix HQ in Australia. They chart how many +1's a FR gets and the various comments that accompany the +1's. They evaluate each FR in relation to how hard that FR would be to implement and whether that FR fits into the official vMix roadmap for world live streaming domination.

Of course, I'm teasing a bit, but vMix takes FR forum VERY, VERY seriously. Some of vMix's best features have come from this forum.

One other note... it is extremely unlikely that vMix will comment on a post in the FR section so please don't feel ignored. Your input is noted.

Take care.

- Tom

Hi Tom! - Thank you for responding to my post. As you can see, there are several supporters for this feature request and hopefully there will be more. Fingers crossed!

But if you need to pause the recording today, you may use OBS, latest release includes ability to pause the recording.

+1 This is more important these days, as sometimes between action scenes, background music is picked up, and then youtube recordings later flag copyright issues. To be able to pause recording would save a lot of issues.

Dear vMix Developer Gods,

I used Rec/Pause in eCamm. Which I left for vMix, and am glad I did. Rec/Pause helped me a lot. It was incredibly awesome to be able to use one of my Stream Deck Pedal buttons to pause recording, so I could
* Run to the bathroom
* Have a coughing fit
* Have a sneezing fit
* Kiss my knuckles to make them feel better when I hurt them trying and failing to be a funny show off dork on the drums
* Get interrupted by my wife when she needs her just-got-home-from-work-kiss
* Stop for a small earthquake to pass
* Drop a drumstick
* My headset falls off
Oh oh, I'm starting to realize maybe my mishaps and interruptions are Abby Normal.

Even so! If you do this for us, I will make a youtube video of these interruptions before and after the new shortcut command :).

I love vMix and hate to edit :) :) :)

Thanks, Ned
