It would be great if vMix had in its hardware settings panel the ability to map inputs then even if the very top card is to windows Decklink Video Capture(3) we could assign it as input #1, and the card below it may be Decklink Video Capture(4) we could assign that to show as input #2 and so on. Since I sell pre-configured systems this would help me tremendously.

After mapping (even if it requires a vMix restart) Capture tab panel device drop down would show simply "input 1" then "input 2" and so on along with the rest of setting in this panel.

Let me know if this is not clear.

you can do that in device management I believe. in windows control panel.

In all my years I have never seen a team that is so responsive and listens so close to it's users.

What's the status on this one?
Is it related to the "Edit capture" behind the "pencil button" in the Capture tab when adding an input? (undocumented feature I believe was introduced in v12.

What happens is each device is given a unique identifier by the driver.
For USB devices these IDs are typically unique to a particular USB port.

As this is all controlled by Windows, vMix has no way of knowing that the device
plugged into the different port is actually the same one that was used in the preset.

The only other piece of information vMix has to work with is the display name of the device
which can be identical for multiple devices.

Like Bardos59 I would like something that offers less risk for problems, than how profile loading currently works. If one little device is missing (e.g. by forgetting bringing a USB dongle to a live event), a large complicated profile might rendered useless.

Grayed out is perhaps one option, when combined with the upcoming feature of changing an existing input's settings.

How about the following instead of giving an error if the device cannot be identified. First, include the device's name in the profile. Then, if a device with the proper ID is missing, look for devices with the name corresponding to the ID in the profile. If one or more devices is found, query the operator which one should be used. If only one had that name, it's done. (Alternatively if just one with the name, use it without a warning/query). If multiple, mark internally which ID the user wanted to use as "used" (remove from the list of devices with the name in question). Then continue with the next input.
