Howdy...

I'd like to see a slight change with how vMix handles Virtual PTZ zooming on a source...

Currently, it's fine to zoom in on a source, but if that source is present in a multiview layer elsewhere in your project, that layer will get zoomed too... That's fine, but the problem is it will zoom BEYOND the multilayer's own zoom/crop settings.

For example, if you have a multiview setup as a Picture-in-Picture, if you zoom in on the original source input, it will zoom in on the multiview, and also EXPAND the size of the PiP in the multi-view... The zoom is a good thing, but expanding the size of the PiP is not desired..

Here's a short video illustrating the problem...

A fix/feature correcting this would be wonderful! :)

Best,

Ben

+1 (sort of, as I explain below)

I think this feature should not be limited to Virtual PTZ. Rather the MultiView layer Position settings should have a checkbox for this. Not sure "frame size maintained" is a suitable denotation though. Perhaps "Keep within source frame", or whatever - I don't know...

I would maybe consider it as bug?

I agree. Think about it as if it was a actual PTZ camera, or any camera for that matter. The image is the same 1920x1080 frame, if the camera zooms in, it doesn't change the size of the frame, so a manned camera cropped in a multiview would behave this way, as a result, the virtual PTZ is buggy when it does this. It's not behaving as a true "virtual" ptz.

You could apply a separate mask to sustain the size of the object in view.

There's a further question about real PTZ vs synthesized PTZ.

1 - If you zoom in a real PTZ camera the shot changes everywhere it occurs in your project. That's what you would expect.

2 - Faux PTZ mimics the physical PTZ at present.

You might argue that it would be better to be able to unlink the various instances of the source in the project, so each can be different.

We've just posted an update to 22 (22.0.0.49) that should correct the Virtual PTZ behaviour.

hey ben,
thanks for your post! i have the same issue... when i zoom in into an input (e.g. a zoom meeting) it will automatically resize my multiview picture of this input. :/ then I have to crop to match the previous size and so on... is there a smart workaround or setting im not getting at the moment?

greets,
Mirco

Having the same issue here. Does anyone have a solution that doesn't require having to screw around with zooming and cropping every time?
