Here's what I am trying to do.

have a stream that has lower 3rds that don't record on my media server.

so I would need a stream that has the lower 3rd - and a stream that doesn't

ONLY 1 specific lower 3rd.. that I could put in one of the overlays only - - and only in that overlay.

any advice on how to do this would be great.

The idea here is at the end of the live stream - it would show what show is up next on the stream - - but the recorded version on our media servers wouldn't have that lower 3rd on it.

Is this possible?

A piece of cake with two PCs.

With one PC... don't think you can using only vMix since vMix only streams the Output.

Do you have other ways of streaming from the same PC?

Take a slightly different approach.

In vMix skip the lower third. Send the clean feed to streaming target #1, and ensure that it gets to an NDI output, which should be automatic.

In OBS collect the NDI output from vMix, and add the lower third, sending it to the other streaming target.

...alternatively...

If you look into the Output/NDI settings you will find that you can set which of the program outputs includes the overlays.

You can set program output WITHOUT overlays to the second program output, which is exposed via NDI. Collect that into OBS and relay it to your other stream target.

FWIW, I have vMix 4K.

Of course. Well written, Michael.

Or you can do it all in vMix. In the Recording settings set Record 1 as normal; set record 2 to Output 2. In the External/Output settings, set Output2 to not include the overlay channel you do not want recorded (I would use 4).

To use this method you need 4k or Pro editions.

Using Tom's method above, I would use Output 2 as the NDI source for the other PC to record.

With the last approach. I'd still need to upload the recorded file after. Correct ?

If you have enough bandwidth you could stream simultaneously from both machines (and record)
