How to install for DC? Do I need to install ndi tools on both computers in order to use DC?
Install DC on both computers? Vmix tutorials show how to use it, but not how to install.

@ PaulV8

The vMix Desktop Capture application needs to be installed on the computer that you want to capture so that the vMix computer can see it as an NDI source on the network.

When you install vMix, DC is also installed on this computer by computer.

For other computers on your network, you need to install the standalone version of DC that's available for Windows and Mac in the Download page of vMix website.
It's an installer that needs a simple double-click to execute.

NDI Tools is a pack of NDI applications from Newtek.
One of these apps is Scan Converter which provides pretty much the same functionnality as DC, so you can decide which one to use.
There is no need to install NDI Tools on your vMix computer, it's more for the other computers on your network you wish to use in your NDI workflow for your production.

Have fun!

I have a desktop computer that has vMix. I also have two laptops that I would like to use with Desktop Capture with PowerPoint to input to vMix.
The first laptop is an older laptop and when I tried to install NDI, I got an error message that said the laptop did not have SSE in the CPU, so NDI did not install. When I load DC to this laptop, vMix will not recognize the DC input. In fact, the laptop has the DC screen showing "0 Connections" and that never changes no matter what I do on vMix.
It seems as though NDI is needed for DC to work. Is this correct?
BTW, the other laptop is a new one and has NDI loaded and the DC does work with vMix just fine.

AFAIK, a CPU with SSSE3 instruction set support is a requirement for the NDI encoder in the NewTek SDK to work. So no SSSE3, no NDI on that PC. End of story.
To quote from a post by NewTek's Kane Peterson:-
SSSE3 instructions started appearing in processors around 2006. All current CPUs have these instructions.
Some of the NDI applications also require AVX instructions. These instructions started appearing around 2011. Most CPUs have these instructions, some low end CPUs might not.
The tool CPU-Z can be used to find out what instructions sets are available on a target computer. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

thanks 1 user thanked zenvideo for this useful post.

I just found out (thanks Tom) the answer to my question. The Desktop Capture program does not need NDI installed for it to work. However, DC uses some bits and pieces of NDI, and since my old laptop could not install NDI, the DC program probably did not work because the NDI pieces could not load when DC loaded.

Yes, that is correct, the vMix Desktop Capture Application needs to be used on a computer that supports NDI:
