I have a question about the audio metering in vMix.

I am coming into the computer via Optical Input SPDIF to a SoundBlaster X-Fi card. I have my audio signal being processed heavily with compression, EQ, limiting, ect and I know that my signal is not clipping anywhere in my signal chain. My final piece of audio equipment is showing levels that are not clipping as they leave the unit over SPDIF. When I add the device in vMix, it shows the occasional clip light within vMix. I have no added gain anywhere in that chain and my out ceiling is -0.01db. Why would Vmix show that my incoming digital signal is clipping when it shows not clipping within my audio equipment and my audio meter within the windows mixer meter? Thanks

Hi Seth,

Sorry for missing this question. The red squares in the meter represent any signal
greater than -2 dB. So the signal may not be clipping at the source if it is very close to the limit.

The level is set conservatively to ensure there is plenty of headroom in the final recording.

Great! Thank you! I was trying to figure out why it was doing that. It would be awesome to have some sort of a clip indicator. Normally in all my metering programs, 0.0 will trip the clip light so we set our out ceiling at -0.1.
